Apparently I Was Delusional in Everyday Ramblings

I still haven’t heard yet about the community garden plot but I am hopeful. One of the things I am hoping to grow is chard; lot’s of chard, and on Monday I got a bunch in my Imperfect box. With their greens you need to process them right away and I stood the stalks up in water and yesterday had the stamina to chop the stems and strip the leaves and cook them all in the Instapot.

Trading the big one with Kes and Most Honorable for the smaller version worked out really well. I made brown rice afterwards. I am eating less and less meat, almost to the point of only having it when I am out but the Instapot is great for so many other things too.

One of my former students gave me this bag of spectacular walnuts from a friend in California at church on Sunday and I found this moist looking walnut cake I can make now that I found the big blade for the food processor. I will shop for the one thing I need for that tomorrow.

I also have lemon cookies in my future when I can stand for a few hours.

I am better but I am still injured. Every day it gets slightly less painful to move and yesterday I was working on a yogic rehab program to strengthen and also relax the injured area so that I can implement it when I am ready.

It is a good thing I waited to read about how long it takes soft tissue injuries to heal, because, and Mrs. Sherlock confirmed this last night. I was thinking oh, a good week and I’ll be good, but with a fairly serious injury we are talking three to four weeks. Duh.

Apparently I was delusional. Yes, in a self-protective way, but delusional.

My big accomplishment yesterday was teaching! I was teaching healthy happy shoulders anyway but one can’t teach a yoga class without forward bends in various planes. I thought a lot about this and in the end I did not even roll out my own mat. I had a chair with a big colorful cushion and I stood for most of the class. We had a couple moments of instructional confusion but basically it worked well.

It was great to see people back finally from the holidays. Lifted my spirits a great deal. And best of all, my student who was diagnosed last year with serious rheumatoid arthritis was much much better last night. He had clearly been struggling in the last few months.

There are so many things I want to do this year with and for my classes. But first I need to get a bit better.

Part of the shift needs to be in my attitude. It is not like I am going to wake up one morning and be pain free. It is a question of accepting the pain and focusing on all that I can do, which is a lot.

I walked to class lass night and as it is light just a tad bit later, the sunset is a bit later, I was passing through the park like area with the heritage trees on the Portland State campus the crows were all coming in and settling in for the night.

A man of indeterminate age walked by me wearing ordinary winter clothes but his head was shaved and he had a topknot and as I was looking up at the hundreds of crows settling in, he looked at me and smiled in a kind of wonder and said, “So Many!”

It is true. So many.

Today my big adventure is to get back to church midday for the New Member Luncheon for the Alliance group that Mrs. Sherlock railroaded me into joining. Apparently she made an almond cake for this and there will be quiche so what is not to like?

It will rain. It does that. I sure wish I could share.

The good news is, and one can tell by the birdsong out there…spring is on its way.
