It's been a while...almost two weeks I think. These past two weeks have been crazy busy but that's how it goes usually. I'm currently at the hospital and can't sleep so I thought I'd catch up here from the past two weeks a bit.
Last week I worked 12-14 hour days except for Wednesday. We had our Perfect Attendance dinners for our plant. I've written about work before (on OD) and explained that because we are a 24/7 place we have 4 different 12 hour shifts. With that, comes doing employee appreciation (also includes meetings, announcements, etc.) events multiple times. This year our PA dinners were on Tuesday and Thursday. This year we had a company from Boston called Ant and Grasshopper do a dinner theatre for the people. It turned out great and it looked like everyone had a lot of fun. I even had two glasses of red wine on Tuesday night (I don't really drink) so it made me feel a bit tipsy. I've been craving red wine a lot though so it was all good. Plus it helped calm the nerves of mum's up coming surgery and making sure everything was in a good place (work wise) before I left.
By Friday I was losing steam and was running on fumes only. I made it into work for 6:30 am to meet with some night shift employees and I had early meetings. I was hating work and everyone that worked there by 7pm as I worked at my desk in the dark because I didn't want to stray away from my task at hand and chasse around the room to wake the light motion detectors.
The weekend I believe was uneventful. My aunt and uncle were in NYC so I hung out with my mum and helped her get ready. Sy and I hung out and went out to dinner :) Monday morning came way too early in my opinion, but my aunt, my mom and I were on the road at 6:30 am to head into Boston. And basically I've been here ever since.
Mum's surgery was scheduled for 11am, everything went fine. It was a long day but she was back in her room by 5:30--6:00 pm. That first night I was exhausted so I went to the "family room" that they have here where people can rest. I went in at 10pm and woke up to my aunt coming in at midnight. She fell asleep almost immediately and started her roaring snore. It went on all night and so all I did was watch tv on the laptop... all. night. long. uh... I ended up going to sleep at 5:30 when she woke up but I got out of bed at 6 to go see how my mom was. She ended up going home and sleeping at her house on Tuesday which was good for me. I slept most of the night. Slept as best as you can in a hospital recliner, but it was so much better than the night before.
And here I am now. She's here, sno(roaring). Today we talked with the PT and they think that since my mom's not healing as quickly as they'd like she should go to rehab starting tomorrow. I don't think it's definite yet, but we'll see tomorrow. Her other hip still hurts and she grew an inch with the re-alignment!! She's been having a little bit of difficulty but she's doing good. I hope this ends up being a positive experience for her so she has her other hip replaced within 6 months.
I put in The Help into the laptop and am just going to watch that until I fall asleep. I have the volume all the way up. If I'm still awake I'm going to put in Blue Hawaii (I'm not kidding!) with Elvis...ah, netflix is a wonderful thing.
Tomorrow I need to do some work. I've been working all week but it's hard to work on projects. Tomorrow I really need to finish our affirmative action plan.
Good night for now.
