Spending money. in A small but passable life.

I rarely spend money. That is because I rarely need anything. But after doing the monthly load of laundry last week and putting on my “winter” cargo shorts I found them a little too tight around the waist. They were a little tight last year, but wearable. Now, six months later, not going to work.
So while waiting for Mom to get her manicure at walmart I perused. I found those exact cargo shorts but larger and in a grey camo instead of green camo. In the dressing room I found that I’d went up two sizes and they were too big. I went back to the rack to find a size smaller and found a solid black pair in the same style. They fit!
I found a nice pair of slippers. Slip-on style. Black. Fuzzy insides.
I needed a new pillow. The two year old pillow is flat and lumpy. The two cheapest pillows were $2-something and $3-something. I bought the more expensive one this time. (The old one was the cheaper one.) Maybe it will last more than two years.
Now, the shirt saga. I have no long sleeved shirts. I have a baja and a favorite sweater. I was looking for a simple pull-over long sleeved shirt. I’d found the right one on Amazon for $16-something with a 20% off coupon. I’d put it in my cart and was thinking about ordering two. After a few days I went to order two and found that “Item is unavailable”. Okay, delete.
I asked the gal at walmart where I could find something like that. She pointed in opposite directions. I went to the first table. Right style, but 100% cotton. (Could work, but not ideal for hiking), $4-something. I went to the second table. Right style and 25% polyester and 75% cotton. Better. $7-something. The brand says DriWorks I grabbed a white one and a black one.
I’d spent about $50. But I should be set for years.
It was 88 degrees yesterday. I slept with the windows open. It was 72 degrees in here this morning. I woke up at 6:18am. It was still dark outside. I thought about starting that morning hiking plan. I didn’t. I went back to sleep until my usual 8am.
So much for buying two new hiking shirts.
I’m pretty sure the guy who came in the changing/shower room at the pool while I was shaving was a homeless guy. Kudos to him for sneaking in the gate. I don’t blame him. I remember the years I went over to the University library second floor restroom every Sunday morning to wash my hair, shave and sponge bathe. There was one year and two weeks in there I went without a shower. My record, so far.
My answer to any political/social/economic/environmental question from here on out will be-
“The jig is up.”
