I am a happy Grandma in At the foot of the hill

Ben, our oldest grandson called me yesterday to tell me that he and his Annie got engaged! I knew he had bought a ring but had not popped the question so I couldn’t say anything. Now it’s on Facebook, so the whole world knows: SHE SAID YES!!! It’s far too early for plans, but son Mike called last night and said we would have a family celebration when the happy couple get back in town… probably this weekend, because Mike is working in Oklahoma all next week.

In other, less exciting areas, life goes on. I think I mentioned that our garage door opener broke. They were supposed to get it fixed Monday. Nobody showed up or even called with an excuse. My cell phone is being weird. My laptop is broken. It still works but I can’t close it. Granddaughter had a crisis requiring an emergency “loan” from the bank of Grandma. (Happy to be able to help her out.)
I’ve been having a lot of pain in my hips and back. Think it’s partly the weather. So much wind as the air pressure changes daily. We’ve had a small amount of snow down here, but huge amounts in the mountains. A couple of the big ski resorts have already been open for about ten days. We’re supposed to get a measurable amount tonight. Need it, but, I am not so fond of winter in my old age.
We are beginning to get exited about our trip to California coming up in just 3 1/2 weeks. Will fly out to Orange County and spend two weeks with my sister and her daughter, coming back after Thanksgiving. I’m dreading the trip, but anxious to see Charlotte and Julie. And the rest of the family…which has had grown by two since our last visit. Don’t want to go anywhere or do anything while there. Just hug my sister and loll on the patio, stealing a couple more weeks of warm weather.
As promised to myself, I did some decluttering yesterday. I have a stack of stuff to donate to our charity pick-up Friday. I’m hoping Bob will contribute another stack by then. And then, please God, get the stuff to the pick-up point on time....
Today I go to the eye doctor. I haven’t had my glasses changed for a long time and think I really need to get that done.
