the fear that she’d see your love
as a dread millstone about her neck
you know, yourself as a heavy load
dragging her down from dreams far
less possible but far more exciting
still than a future at your side
the fantasies that can never come true
the people who do not exist at all
they are nothing and
you just want to yell
“aren’t I better than nothing?”
but you know the answer
and she knows the answer
and the answer
doesn’t matter
