on late summer nights like these
still blazing hot in the sunshine
cooler but still humid in the evenings
where the loneliness of my singledom
really kicks in as fucking melancholy
the crickets or frogs or whatever sing
wish I could share their reveries
with someone who found me special

on those late summer nights like these
I tell myself, Mike, you melodramatic fuck
take those memories back instead
the ones where old loves stole them
come back full circle with new eyes
learn to see again
to love fully again
your distant memories
yourself as a friend
take them all back
while there’s still time
well, if there’s still time
and so out I go
to old places
to rewatch the shows
listen to crickets and frogs
hook up in the fading heat
texting lust through sound phones
but Jesusing Christos why
do I have to do it all alone
