no… in fact… have regrets
go and have tons of them
ome without regrets is
living like an entirely
un-self-examined life
possibly glacially boring
or even worse yet they are
just pretending to be tough
like some mafioso wanna-bes
in those outdated pop songs
the people with no regrets
or… hell… even just a few
don’t learn from this short life
the way us regretful creatures do

no… in fact… have regrets
have a lifetime worth of them
let them seer roughshod over
your body as if shining scars
I myself have more regrets than
I can see in night-time’s stars
upon which constellations can
be spelled out and maybe read
into my future and my past
and just like those ancient stars
every one is built to last
and each one of them will outlive me
billions of years within their plans
and each one of them makes me
want to be a slightly better man
each just little the tiniest bit
but each none the less
make me a little more
my eventual best

so… in fact… have regrets
they’re the words from which
all our stories will be read
like stars scarred into the sky
like scars scorched into your flesh
like your face burn in forever
in the space behind my eyes
regrets to yearn
regrets to learn
regrets to burn
more than one
more than two
more than a few
