Sick sick sick and tired tired tired of this winter. Seriously. I'm finally getting over this headcold from Hell and my allergies start up. That would be annoying enough, but I'm fighting allergies while I'm freezing my butt off. I'm not happy. (insert grumpy face here).
When I got my mail yesterday I had a notice for a certified letter. I've never gotten one before. I've sent them a time or two, but never gotten one. Of course the post office was closed by the time I got my mail, so I had to wait. I thought about it and all I could think of was bad things. Actually, I had a fear of karma biting my butt. A friend got one the other day with a picture of her car running a red light. It was accompanied by a $125 ticket. I laughed at her, so I just new that it was karma coming back on me. (When I was bringing my friend to the urgent care in Shreveport I made a uturn in the middle of the road and went the wrong way on a one way (before the uturn...ooops). When I went in to get the letter and the lady that was in there was a friend of my parents. We visited for a few minutes and then I got a look at the letter...the IRS. Crap. Crap. Crap. Are they never going to leave me alone???? It was an even more threatening letter that stated I had ignored the first notice and if I ignore this one they will bring me to court. Well, I didn't ignore the first letter. I paid the same day I got it. Have you ever tried to speak to someone at the IRS? the first 2 numbers only brought you to recordings no matter what you pushed. I finally found a 3rd number to general customer service. It said my wait time was 15 - 25 minutes. It was almost 45. Then she transferred me to another section where I was on hold for another 20. She transferred me again, but I was only on hold a couple of minutes there. Both of the last two said they saw where I made the payment in December. That payment is for the same amount that they say I owe. So I have an overpayment for $199 and I owe them $199. There are a dozen hoops to jump through to get it straight. The people were all nice, but I asked the last one why they were being so aggressive over what was really a small amount. He told me that he personally didn't agree with the letters that went out, or rather he felt they should at least try with a "nice" letter first. Regardless, I have 4 names and ID numbers that they see it, they know I paid, and that they should be able to get it straight. I even asked the last guy if they could refund the over payment and just let me make a payment again. He said, they couldn't send a refund on a year when I owed. However, I got a small refund this year, I would have thought they would have held it (I'm glad they didn't, but ya know, it's just strange). The last guy emailed me a transcript of our conversation showing that it had been paid since December and that I would not be held to any fines or interest. I'm just ready for them to get it straight.
My break is slipping by quickly. I was hoping to get some time in outside, but it's been wet and cold. :( I spent all day at school today. I got a lot of work done, but I have more to do. Tootie has to test tomorrow, so I should get some more done then. I have 5,985,298 papers to grade (or around that amount :D). I need to dig my way out of this mess in my house. I'm getting a new(er) couch, so I have to clean. I need to get myself out of this funk/stress that I'm under.
I do get to start something new, though. In a couple of weeks I go in for training to be a docent at a nearby zoo. It's the zoo I grew up going to. They've grown so much. They're small, but they've been run by the same family since I was a kid. They love the zoo and the animals. They have earned many awards and are heavily involved in conservation. I'm excited.
