there were always gay folk
there were always trans folk
just now they’re coming forward
react with love and understanding
and not fear

there were always autistic people
it’s just we’re diagnosing better
there isn’t “estrogen in the water”
or “poison inside the vaccines”
the world’s just opening up now

when complaining about how things are different now
at least consider that there might be a reason why it
doesn’t work anymore just because the past was yours
doesn’t mean it didn’t actually suck
in the bare and honest truth
the past mostly just sucked
