The lone bee.

I’ve missed the roses I usually shoot. There were none to photograph at the Spring convention the last two years. This year the land had been bulldozed for condos. Bereft. That’s how I felt. Empty. Roses require lots of water, and I understand the water restrictions we here in California now live with. The new owners of the property allowed employees to dig up roses if they wanted a special one. After that, they flattened the land.

Roses planted in a gentle terraces down Florida Canyon.

I thought about this for two months. Perhaps I was busy with wearing out. Four weeks ago, I noted that my battery ran low on that last Balboa Park jaunt. Finally last week, I decided to go…. Instead I made my costume vest. This week, with the vest done, I had no excuses. G assured me that the battery on my scooter was fully charged. Still not fully believing that my scooter had lots of range, I had him drop me off at the Rosie the Riveter rose garden on the far, far side of the park..

Huge old cactus.

Acres of beautiful roses in terraces going down the canyon. Only one single rose had a bee tho. Then I moved north through the old Cactus garden. The camera batteries and scooter battery were still working just perfectly. So I kept going, and going, and only going up and over one bridge did the battery creep downward. Now I know.
