Another walk. in A small but passable life.

I woke up this morning without a cold. Maybe sleeping in 17 degree air is a cold cure? I have no idea. Anyway, I was up and dressed and out of the van by 11am. It wasn't as bad as predicted. Clear. No wind. and not too awfully cold. I walked downtown to the library and dropped off the book. I went across the square and stood in line at the welfare office. They have new protocols, once again. Stop at window. Take a number. Answer the phone when it rings. Answer questions. And then the guy, Gary, you just talked to on the phone comes out and you sign a couple of papers. WTFE! Anyway, I'm still getting $189 a month. Which works out to be $6.21 a day vs. the $200 a month or $6.66 a day I got for the first couple of years. It's more than doable. My balance right now is $302 with the $189 coming on the 15th. I'd like to have a few hundred dollars on the card so when Jassy and Clayton move to the city I can stock their kitchen for them. Oh yeah, no questioning about where I'm getting the $25 a month for the child support. I wasn't sure how I was going to answer that one if asked. I walked on up to the post office and mailed the check to the child support folks and pulled the $20 from the ATM. I walked to the credit union and deposited the $20. On to the grocery store for a can of chili and a quart of milk. Back to the van to pack my grocery tote and then over to the student union.
I sat there and read until 8pm tonight. I ran into Angela on my way out. I stopped long enough to say "Hi". As soon as I got over here Marvin came over to tell me they're closing at 10pm tonight. Instead of going anywhere else to sit I think I'll walk to the grocery store and buy something to drink to stash in the van in case I have to stay in for a bit because of the weather. We may get rain or ice tomorrow morning. The bad weather isn't supposed to arrive until Sunday with a high of 25 degrees and dropping to 7 degrees that night, with a wintry mix. Tomorrow and Saturday though the high temperature is supposed to be 48 degrees. Depending on the amount of sunshine I may be able to lounge in the van those two days.
What I really need to do though is plan for a shave, shampoo, and wash-up tomorrow or Saturday.
