What says Valentine's Day more than a heart-shaped piece of scampi?
Pretty much everything else... I suppose. ;)
So although our Valentine's weekend involved a random piece of heart-shaped scampi (you'll have to take my word for it as Jesica was less convinced) it also involved plenty else too.
Originally I had hoped to have been able to spend Valentine's Day with Jesica but the days I wanted off work had already been booked by someone else. So we had to make do with celebrating a day later on Saturday 15th.
Jesica almost didn't get one of the presents that I'd bought her though. The cuddly toy tiger almost got left by the lottery ticket stand in TESCO. I put it down to fill in my numbers and then forgot about it and joined the counter queue! Luckily I realised and quickly went back to the stand to retrieve the gift bag containing said stuffed and stripey carnivore.
The other things I bought her were a brooch and a necklace - the necklace is one of those that supposedly changes colour to indicate the mood of the wearer. It certainly changes colour but as to how accurate it is - well only Jesica would know. (The irony being that the wearer is actually the only person who can't see it...).
I also bought some flowers for Jesica in TESCO while I was there. Although it was 15th it was one of their Valentine's Day bouquets - complete with a little stuffed toy devil on a wooden stick (cuter than it maybe sounds). Anyway, I took this to the checkout to pay and the girl serving there said to me:
"It was yesterday! Did you forget?"
I told her:
"No, I didn't get to see her yesterday."
True, of course... but I'm not sure how convincing it sounded to her. She'd probably seen a whole succession of shamefaced men who'd forgotten to buy Valentine's gifts passing through her checkout with bunches of flowers already that morning. LOL
I got some lovely presents from Jesica too - including delicious chocolates, a flannel with my name and a cow's face embroidered into it and assorted male grooming products. :) Oh - and a card which I've still got up in my flat.
We went by taxi to the Kingswood area of Hull where we had a three course meal at The Oystercatcher. I had steak and ale pie as my main and Jesica had the aforementioned scampi as hers. The portions were pretty generous throughout all of the courses - indeed my pie would've been enough for two people! It was all very tasty anyway. Neither of us wanted or needed another meal that day. LOL
This photo of us was taken before we started eating.
After our third course (cheesecake for both of us) we headed over the road to Cineworld to see Cuban Fury. We both enjoyed the movie though I'll admit that I began to doze slightly during the final big dance sequence. It's a pretty amusing film anyway.
After the film we caught a bus to take us part of the way back to Jesica's house - we actually got off just outside the place we often eat at on a Sunday (and, indeed, would eat there the very next day) and we walked the rest of the distance (only about 25 minutes).
In the morning we had a nice, long, lie-in until about 10am. ;) Then we headed out for lunch. :) Not so many courses this time. :D
