Insecurities and Opportunities in Everyday Ramblings

Yesterday evening Kes called to ask me a question about how my audio book download process works and the first thing I asked her was, “What is the evolutionary reason for insecurities?” She laughed.

But really I would like to know.

She thought maybe it is a Western cultural artifact. I don’t really know enough about other cultures in a deep way to know if that is true or not. I know that self-confidence is not an issue for most say… Tibetans or Russians. (Or our own Millennial generation :).

I have been putting myself out and about in the world this last year. There is teaching yoga, learning this new Hormonal Balancing mash up technique, birding with strangers, going to Weight Watchers meetings every week, the big high profile project at work and the training wheels reintroduction to the universe of intimacy with Mr. Fine China.

And today I have an interview with a lovely woman who is going to decide if I am the right person to take over a weekly yoga class for caregivers in the Oncology ward of our Children’s Hospital. It is a great opportunity for me that came out of the blue and I am a little nervous. She is looking at least one other teacher to see if it is a fit. This recommendation is a direct result of my substitute gig a few months back.

The date and time of week are perfect. I can walk there. And the very best part of all is that I would be teaching in the beautiful meditation room I used to go sit Zazen meditation in everyday at noon when I was doing that and working in the hospital in the building next door. It is a high profile nonpaid job that will look really good on my teaching resume but we also be a great joy to teach.

So fingers crossed for me, okay?

And if you have any ideas on the evolutionary reason for insecurities I am all ears.
