WOW, we are awfully proud of you.

There was lots of forgetting on my part, but everything came out wonderfully.

We started an hour something in advance. Parking was easy, George kindly put my scooter together, and Margot had saved us all seats in the second row. Once we convinced the senora in front of us to place her eight balloons somewhere else than in front of our faces, we could see what was happening.

Zoe’s Big Sister Melody came, as did Chris, and Margot’s best friend and daughter. We truly cheered and whistled her on. Some folks like Zoe’s friend Joseph couldn’t come, but we kept them in our hearts. We commented that she was really the only Caucasian in her glass. Hispanics predominated. When we were all in school, there were no Hispanics in our classes. G had a few, but no one else did. I was a little surprised to see the sea of beautiful brown faces.

Not only for her promotional diploma, Zoe was also called up to get a special award in Science, and another in the Language Arts. They had not told her in advance, so she was more than delighted by the surprise.

The students marched in by GPA. Those with 4.0 or better came first, 3.5 to 4.0 next…and this was Zoe’s group. In the very back were two rows of young men who got 2.0 and below. No promotion to 9th grade for them.
