I just saw a link to an article that says The Following hits a new low. I am sure it is about ratings, since the rest of the article was about Monday night ratings. But in all reality, the show itself has it a staggering low.

I wasn’t sure last year when I started watching if I really wanted to sit through a season of bumbling law enforcement trying to catch a smart serial killer escapee. It was like a poor man’s 24 with a twist. But I watched and I was intrigued at times. I mean who couldn’t be when a security card committed suicide while in the hospital strapped down by ripping off his bandages on his shoulder wound and choking himself to death? Or when another Follower had a hidden cyanide pill stitched under the skin of his hand and bit into it thus killing himself. These followers are nutball loyal to Joe Carroll. And then there was creepy Roderick & Emma & the sometimes gay dudes. It was a quirky wild ride and then it ended with Joe dead in a blown up lake house cabin thing and Ryan & Claire laying on the floor stabbed by Ryan’s cooky Follower neighbor.

This year opened where last year left off and Ryan broke cooky neighbor’s neck and survived to go on teaching at a New York university, while Claire died. Mike Weston was left sitting at home in his underwear downing canned beverages & watching the news all day, pending a psych evaluation. A year for a psych eval? Pretty decent portrayal of how slow the government is. Oh and Joe lived, moved down south to be with his “sister” who is a prostitute. He grew some facial hair, but on a fake accent and lived the simple life.

Then he went and killed the pervy priest and then Mandy killed her momma and she and Joe set off to find Lily and her house of psychos.

Here is the lowest part of the low. Lily’s twin sons Luke & Mark are off the rails sick. We are talking, sleeping with dead chicks, dressing them up, dancing with them sick. As if that is not bad enough, they kill a husband & wife and then sit them up, fix them dinner and act as though they are a happy family. W.T.F? And then last night good old Luke brings dead Giselle home and romps around with her in the nude until his brother busts in and convinces him that she is dead. Why? I mean do you really need to top crazy?

I think The Following is going to go the way of The Killing. People don’t want to watch two years of Ryan Hardy trying to catch Joe Carroll & cheat death numerous times. Ryan Hardy has a pace maker, was electrocuted last season, shot, stabbed, nail gunned. This year, he has been hit by a cab, stabbed, beat up by a girl, and basically told the FBI to F off. Plus his niece is Silver Taylor for 90210. No way she makes it through the season. And now Mike Weston is all off the rails punching the shit out of Luke whom he shot like three times in the chest. How is that guy still alive?

Oh and Joe. Well Joe caught on to Lily’s little plan, basically told her to F off, tricked Ryan & the Feds again and is off to parts unknown with cuckcoo ajoo Emma & Mandy.

So, yes the necro twins is definitely the lowest possible denominator that The Following could have produced. I thought they were just going to kiss & sleep with mommy, but nope, they went a step further. The ewww factor has dinged on this show.
