At last I have time to write something after being away las week helping look after kids who were on half term, since their parents work at different times during the day. We were sort of back ups - to be there when there were changeovers, or one child was being taken somewhere and the other was at home.

It was not onerous, and in fact very enjoyable - especially since we were able to do things with one rather than both of them at the same time. A couple of visits to local museums, playing in the woods, some soccer, and generally enjoying their company. We also had a day with some friends, including a lunch in a country pub - and a couple of meals out with the family.

The weariness comes from not really having time to sit down, and just take some time off - and being in a strange bed, and not being the master of your timetable. Still it was really good to be around for the week - and to see the famly dynamics in action.

We also were able to catch a cathedral evensong on one of the days - and it is great to listen to good music sitting in the choir stalls - as the darkness deepens outside and in the building - only the lights illuminating part of the stonework. I reckon you do not have to be Christian to take in the joy of the moment.

Since we got back we have been to an opera performance which was great, and seen two games of rugby on the tv when England been Ireland and Scotland beat Italy. For a change I thought England actually deserved to win - but both games were very close. It certainly takes up a Saturday afternoon.

So now we are back to normal for a few weeks until we are off again to a wedding! There is not rest for the wicked !!!!!

And a sidelight on history here - I do believe things have changed by 2014
