I edited and edited and edited until I didn’t know what else to cut out to get back to 10 pages.

Both writing samples and my “personal statement” have now been submitted for review.
It’s not like there is a chance I will be rejected for the MFA program.

In some weird perverse way I almost hoping I am, because my next question would be “Great, what other program can I sign up for?”

The editing was fun, because it took me back to when I was originally writing.

A lot had to be recreated from notes because most of my writing was victim of the great 2018 32 bit to 64 bit conversion and I have an external hard drive I can no longer access. note to self: PRINT EVERYTHING OUT!

Last night I lay in bed running through all the story ideas I have had in the last 30 years.
Caretaker was a story about a generation ship going to a distant star system, where some of the population was awake and some were in hibernation. When the “me” character was the sixth in line to wake up, do maintenance and check on that status of everyone before going back into hibernation. But something had gone terribly wrong between my predecessor and me.

Yep. I came up with the idea in 1989. Pandorum and Passengers came out significantly later.

I’m still waiting for the universe to steal “Cloudburst and Frenzy” which I started in my early 20s. It is nothing but notes in a paper notebook. Maybe the idea stealing goblins need it to be digitized.

It was pretty today. Right at the edge of beach weather. The snow is all but gone.

And.

It is going to rain for the next four days.
