I went to the GI doc yesterday. They had been sending me emails, texts and phone calls that I needed to call for an appointment a couple of weeks ago, so I did. Was informed that I was due for a colonoscopy since it had been five years. I tried to argue with the girl on the phone. Told her I was under the impression that I wouldn’t have to do that anymore since I’m over 80. She was very nice and looked at my records. Came back to say that the doctor had ordered it.
Not one to disagree with a doctor’s order I went along with it and got the procedure scheduled, but I was not happy about it. Then, a couple of days later I got another call from the office telling me that the doctor had decided I should come into the office before the procedure… they would keep me on the schedule, “just in case they still wanted to do it.” Really? Okay, then. Maybe I could get out of it.
So yesterday I went to the office and saw the very sweet NP whom I have visited in the past. Right away she said she agreed that I probably didn’t need to have the test. I have not had any reason to think there is any problem. I am probably not going to live long enough for something to develop to the point of causing anything major. If I do think something is going on in the future, they will do what needs to be done then.... If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?
I so enjoyed scratching that appointment off my calendar!
