She’s so mean but I don’t care
I love her eyes and her wild wild hair
Dance to the beat that we love best
Heading for the nineties
Living in the wild wild west

The first time I heard that song I was maybe 24 or 25. I had received my BS. I was the youngest Field Training Instructor in the Air Force.

Driving back from a long weekend visiting my buddy Jerry at Edwards AFB in the high desert of California.

You can see the lights of Las Vegas from about 20 miles.

I usually listened to my cassette player in my car until I could see the lights, then I would switch over to FM.

I love her eyes and her wild wild hair…

I was still in lust with X1.

We lived in a small apartment across from Nellis AFB. It was pretty nice. There was a large living/dining room. A huge bedroom with a hot tub in the bathroom. I laugh when I think of it, it was called a “Roman Love Tub.” I can’t imagine someone in marketing using that phrase in this day and age.

Oh gawd. The hubris of youth. We were mostly naked when we were home. She was a former dancer, and I was all muscle and testosterone. We were in our 20s and hot. I had no idea at the time that that was not always going to be that way.

Time is the great equalizer.
