And So On and So Forth in The Day To Day Ramblings

Making a goal to come here and write even when there isn't really anything huge to report. Let me emphasize that. Here are the five biggest things going on right now.
1) It's snowing/sleeting/precipitating outside and schools/businesses are cancelled/closed. 2) I need to go run or workout but dammit, I don't wanna. 3) I've been watching some great series on Netflix lately - namely Scandal, New Girl and Orange is the New Black. Always looking for recommendations. I keep hearing about Sherlock, House of Cards and Sons of Anarchy but none are pulling me in yet. If you have other ideas beyond those, please share! 4) Trying to read more...succeeding in napping/Netflixing a lot. 5) Wishing winter were over. Ready for spring.
See? I could have updated all of those in November...or December...or all of January. Same old around here but I suppose, so it goes. A little calm, quiet in this life isn't such a bad thing.
We had this incredible weather on Tuesday - highs in the upper 40s and snow melted and I swear the birds all came back and there were PUDDLES instead of death-patches-disguised-as-icy-spots and I ran and ran and ran. I smiled while I ran - so consciously thankful for this recharge button on my mental strength battery. It was much needed, to say the least. I took Claire for three runs and went out walking around the neighborhood with a friend and her three little ones and genuinely soaked it all up. I was outside the entire day. Forecasts are once again calling for more Polar Vortex (if you don't know what that is, bless you - you're lucky) and highs will be in the zeros again next week. However, March starts in just over a week and then, dammit, Spring shall start! I say so! It also means my birthday is coming and we all know how much I love my birthday. :-D
In other news, Rob is tearing apart our front coat closet and making it into this super fantastical mudroom with a bench he made himself and some shelves he constructed with his bare hands and he's pretty jazzed about it. I find the whole thing interesting from afar but I'm letting him do with it whatever he wants. He is SO into it that he stays up until midnight painting and sanding and drilling and sketching. He comes to bed and wakes me up to tell me all about his progress. It's pretty adorable and I'm thankful for a man who has such pride in his work and such passion for home improvement. It has certainly made our house more home-y and has personalized a lot of the corners of this space in ways I could only dream. Hooray husband!
Moving on, my eating lately has been disastrous. I'm hoping March and time outside and warmth instead of frigid and light instead of darkness will help turn that around. Just so hard to crave 'healthy' food when I'm constantly cold and crabby. Chocolate and carbs have tasted oh so much more fulfilling. Even that one glorious day on Tuesday had me eating differently for those 24 hours of Mini Spring. Pushing hard to get through these last few weeks and then boom. It will be ON. Looking at pictures from myself last summer when I was eating better and working out with more intensity (but also outside all the time) has me especially motivated. Now if we could just get it to stop sleeting and I think we'd be onto something...
Time to get off the couch, hop on the treadmill and get some miles under my feet. Supposed to have blizzard conditions later with 50+ mph winds so I'll just watch it all blow around and be thankful we even have a treadmill. Perhaps that's the spin I need...instead of frustrated I can run outside, being thankful I can run inside and run at all will help keep it all in perspective. A healthy body is all too often overlooked or underappreciated. Let it snow, Mother Nature. I'm still making progress!
Also, bonus Claire pictures :)
After our busy and endlessly active day on Tuesday, she fell asleep sitting up and just...tipped over. :)
Off on an adventure - always time for a selfie!
When it's crappy out we spend a lot of time just like this...me on one end, her on the other.
And finally, my little itty bitty skinny legged squishable niece :)
