I just had a weird idea for a story:
Normal person, normal life, 3rd Shift Convenience Store Clerk, nothing special. They use a site like Prosebox to journal and read other journals.
One day, the main character reads a journal about someone they find really fascinating. A lot of similarities in details but the emotional and intellectual responses are different. The main character realizes that the person probably lives in the same area that they do. The main character slowly starts to look for this mystery diarist but the diarist finds out and gets weird. Like… threatening the main character not to come looking. Then the main character starts to read things that make them think this mystery diarist is someone in their life. They start getting paranoid and panicked.
Until one day, the main character is visited by a therapist. Strange as usually, one has to visit a therapist, not the other way around. The therapist tries to be calming and soothing, but the paranoia has already gripped the main character so it is difficult to get through. Finally, the Therapist simply brings out a laptop, ques up a video, and hits play. The laptop image is Main Character’s face. The image on the screen introduces itself as the Mystery Diarist and Original/Primary Personality. The Main Character is a fragment personality that has asserted itself while the Primary Personality is submerged. When Primary began to realize that time was missing and Primary was always incredibly tired; Primary started to realize what was going on. Primary went to Therapist for help and Therapist has been trying to cure Primary of Main Character. Main Character rejects all of it. Spouts off stories of simulated facial software that could make it look like the real Winston Churchill was singing Daft Punk. But something in the way Main Character is speaking means Main Character does believe it is the truth. Therapist gives Main Character a business card and says, “See you tomorrow.”
