Picking scabs. in A small but passable life.

I've been picking scabs again. Lying in bed at the end of another day just like all the other days. Scenes from the past replaying in my mind. Pick that scab. Some are thick like the ones on youthful skinned knees. Others are thin but more painful like the abrasions from constant scrapes. Conversations recalled. Decisions made. Lives altered, for better or worse. All memories are there. All should remain there. In the past. But they keep squirming there, under the scabs.

Three days. Three days with much warmer weather. The daily routine has remained constant. Up before noon. A bowl of cereal for breakfast. Reading as the van warmed up. 59 degrees on Saturday. 66 degrees yesterday. And 72 degrees today. A bologna sandwich and Pringles and fudge covered graham crackers and milk for supper.

At dusk going over to Hardee's to see if the wifi was working. It hasn't worked since Friday. Over to Burger King to log on. When Burger King closes at 11pm, back over to Hardee's for another hour until it closes. Back to the van. Crawling into my sleeping bag.

To pick scabs again.

I may head over to the university library tomorrow for a shave, shampoo and wash-up. Or I may wait another day. I almost went today. I hate to pass up warm days in the van. Especially when they come in February.

I've got one more story, the fourth and last, to read in the book. I still haven't got online and lined up any more books for my 'hold' list. I'd really like to read more of the current author's work.

Jassy said in her last email that the convenience store that basically forced her to quit and begged her to come back to work is now giving her enough hours to get overtime. And she's still working about twenty hours a week at Dollar Tree. Her and Clayton are just about ready to move to the city. She has her list and things are slowly getting checked off. They've got the money in savings to pay for the move. And she's got a list of apartments to check out when she next visits.

I sent off my Valentine's Day emails. I haven't heard back from anyone yet.

Yeah, I guess people are bored with the story.

(The above written and saved last night.)

Today. No surprise. It was a day just like the last few. The only good news being that when I came over here to Hardee's the wifi actually worked. A good thing as Burger King's atmosphere is just weird.

Today the van warmed up to 79 degrees. That is with partly overcast skies and a high temp of 68 degrees outside. And being the third week in February, there are no complaints from me.

The runners were out in full force today. Tanning bed tanned legs under those funky looking shorts and ponytails swinging.

At dusk I walked to the store for another half gallon of milk and a quart-sized Bolthouse Mango protein. I was craving more Keebler Grasshopper cookies but they were out of them.

I should be finishing the book tomorrow. And then I'll be ready for a walk downtown to the library.

Anyway, I'm off to get some titles lined up and on their way to the library.
