Busy Day in Book Six: Trying to Hold On 2019

It is a busy day so I want to throw some things out before I actually write anything (if I get the chance to actually write anything)

Frankly, I could have put up almost ANY video with the caption “I still don’t understand people who believe Trump even CAN tell the truth!” But this one matters more. Tonight, at the State of the Union Address, we will hear the President of the United States discuss “Border Security” and “National Safety.” Coming from a President who refuses to listen to the Intelligence Community… coming from a President that couldn’t even be bothered to READ THE REPORT or WATCH THE HEARINGS… this President’s statements on security (foreign or domestic) cannot be relied upon. Basing government spending and/or policy on the impulsive, impetuous, emotion-based-not-fact-based ramblings of this President is both irresponsible and unsafe. Far more than simply “political fare” this comes down, ultimately, to WHAT ACTUALLY MATTERS. If every expert, every person with knowledge, and every professional is saying “There is a problem with the electrical grid”… we should ignore the guy yelling “But fix the decor first!”

Okay, morning is finished. That means that we had 3 hours of hearings I covered. I have two major hearings left for today. Then that is my Tuesday. My Wednesday should be a bit better??!!??

One thing I wish to share because… call it a public service announcement:

The process by which a citizen can invoke their civil rights does not go through the County Attorney’s Office. In those cases, consider us the Defense! Because we represent The Government. So if you think the police violated your rights by “coming onto your land without your permission”… don’t call the County Attorney to complain. Talk to your Private Attorney and sue the State for a Breach of your Civil Liberties. And then, when your attorney sues the State… our office will get involved REPRESENTING THE STATE. That’s how to view our office. We’re not, as people expect, Private Attorneys to be hired by indigent people. We’re not, as people expect, Law Library Professionals to be rung up anytime a citizen has a question about the law. We’re not, as too many people expect, a more professional looking version of law enforcement. We are Attorneys representing Government Interest in the County. Because the United States Government declares Citizen Safety and Lawful Conduct to be in their legal purview… I have the honor of being a Criminal Prosecutor. But that isn’t because (technically) the government CARES about people being the very best that they can be. That is because the government said, “This is our jurisdiction.” SO… if you have a legal complaint against a police officer THAT IS NOT A SERIOUS CRIMINAL COMPLAINT, there’s nothing we can do for you. TECHNICALLY, even if you DO call us with what you think is a serious criminal complaint against Police Officers… there is nothing my office can do! You have to call Law Enforcement for that… and then, likely, my office will recuse itself due to conflicts of interest and we’ll request a different office prosecute.

So, to sum up that last bit.....
If police chase a killer across your lawn, trampling your rose garden, and you wish to file a complaint… don’t call the County Attorney’s Office. We don’t care.
If police chase a killer across your lawn, and kill your dog, and you wish to file a complaint… don’t call the County Attorney’s Office. There’s nothing we can do.

I hate seeing bullshit racism just as much as I hate seeing bullshit claims of racism. HERE’S AN EXAMPLE
Some absolute cunt posted “I’ll believe our civilization is not in decline when our tidiness guru Marie Kondo learns to speak English!” This is bullshit. This is racism. This is demanding that a successful person FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY who is NOT WHITE is required to “learn English” or “civilization is in decline.” DUMB. ASS. Would you say that Civilization is in decline because Pope Francis’ first language isn’t English? How about President Moon from Korea? Or Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan the same country Marie Kondo is from!

But then… there are bullshit claims of racism. No, I won’t be mentioning a famous one that is still being reviewed. Unless evidence is strongly present FOR or AGAINST, you can’t really definitively declare something racist or not racist. So I’ll use something I can definitively declare.

This afternoon, one of my cases I’m covering for has a lot (a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot) of Jailhouse Writings. The Hispanic man continues to call the Judge racist, his defense attorney racist, the State racist… apparently to him… everyone is racist. But here’s the issue......................
The Gentleman was stopped while driving erratically. And trying to outrun the cops by vehicle. And not yielding to stop signs or traffic lights. And when he was finally pulled over, the alcohol container he was drinking from was (1) still open; (2) still contained alcohol. So he was arrested and placed in custody. He went to his preliminary, he went to his arraignment, he was released on Bond, and didn’t show up to anymore hearings. So a warrant was issued. He was arrested and a new bond was issued that he could not pay. The judge said it would likely be “around 30 days” until his hearing could be set. Then the judge went on vacation. The “30 days” turned into 45 days. Starting on Day 32… letters and motions and hand written shouts of “racism” because it had been longer than 30 days. Except… and follow me on this… it isn’t racism if every person jailed experienced additional delays to their cases due to the judge’s vacation. Which happened. For some, WAY worse. This man experienced an additional 15 days in jail (which he would not have even had if he had only attended his hearings). Some defendants experienced an additional month. NO individual experienced “unlawful detention” or “prejudiced detention”… the vacation simply meant that people who had not come to their initially scheduled hearings were held in jail with bond (allowing them an opportunity to get out) until those hearings could take place… since they had already proven that they were unwilling or unable to come to the hearings of their own accord.

Just wanted to put that out there. Racism is bullshit and should be called out, mocked, and disparaged where it exists. People screaming accusations of racism for every little thing because they don’t wish to be held accountable for their own actions is also bullshit, should be called out, mocked, and disparaged where it exists.

Tonight President Trump will offer his thoughts on finishing that sentence. If the polls are to be believed, most Americans will not think much of his answer for the state of the union. There will be a response, and whatever the opposition says, a different group of Americans will strike back at that as well.

I’ve been thinking about what I would say if asked. There are so many conflicting emotions. I think we are angry and hopeful, divided and resolute, determined to confront injustice, and distracted by all of the nonsense. I feel some combination of all of that myself, but I feel something more fundamental that I think may resonate even with people on different sides of the political divide.

I feel the state of the union is sad. And it’s a sadness that I feel is deep and abiding. People may feel that sadness for very different reasons. But I sense that most Americans realize we have big problems that need to be fixed and we are not working to fix them. We are whipped up into very real emotions, often based on real outrage, but we understand that we work best when we are getting along rather than seething from opposing sidelines. Time and again in our nation’s history, we have stared down horrible odds to our country’s future and its path to justice by being innovative in our collaborations, by building bridges. And by being positive.

I think most Americans want to be happy and want others to be happy. This often gets lost on the national stage, especially as a president and his enablers stoke hatred and division and a false sense of victimhood. But I think even those who say they support the president would rally more to a positive vision. One of the many tragedies of this administration is that we have a leader who seems to thrive on others feeling unhappy. In his calculus, all that matters is his own fragile ego. You have to have an ego to be president but many Americans are convinced that we haven’t had a modern president who is so callous to the general well being of the nation.

I hope that a mean-spirited and narrow vision of our state of the union is rejected. I hope that the forces of inclusion and empathy are victorious. I hope in this struggle our better angels win out. But this process will not be joyful. It is sad that it is so necessary.

Uuf. That’s my Tuesday! Long day. Now have to go home… then go to the gym… then hopefully teach my Wife my favorite board game. It has been set up on our Dining Room table since last Wednesday! lol Rendering the table almost entirely unusable. So… it would be nice to finally teach her.
