The world is a buzz with Miley Cyrus and her VMA performance. I think her performance was bizarre and raunchy yes, but is it really that bad? If you take a look over the last 29 years since Madonna humped the Radio City Music Hall stage, pop culture and music has changed…drastically.

I think what Miley did is comparable to what Madonna did in 1984. Or how about when Adam Lambert simulated oral sex with a dude on the American Music Awards? Isn’t the VMA’s the bad ass awards show where anything and everything goes? Well except Andrew Dice Clay? It’s the alternative awards show right? Didn’t Lady Gaga show her entire ass in the opening number and then proceed to wear her shell boob covers throughout the show? So Miley got her grind on with Robin Thicke, I am sure there are plenty of women out there who wouldn’t mind doing that. Sure she molested a foam finger which is bizarre and I really don’t see how a foam finger or freaky teddy bears played into the performance, but isn’t shock & unique what MTV wants? We are still talking about it two days later…mission accomplished. I find it hilarious that CNN insists they are not covering her anymore. That will change when something big happens with her. Guaranteed, they are part of the problem that leads to performances like this.

There is some sort of double standard in the business when it is okay and considered artistic for Beyonce to continually do her crotch shot dance, but not okay for Miley to grind Robin Thicke. It is okay for Rhianna to be disgusting all the time but not for Miley to go without pants.

I think it is the Disney stigma. Disney Darlings are supposed to be wholesome and pure. I mean, it is Disney. But once they breakaway from the control of Mickey & Company, they are allowed to be real people and do real things. Things they didn’t get to do when they were playing this sweet innocent girl. Lindsey Lohan turned to drugs, booze, hot pants and stealing, Miley turned to sticking her tongue out and twerking in Brooklyn. Both of them are going to turn 35 and look back on their lives and be all like, “What the fuck did I do?” Shit happens. I think they need to get away from the toxicity that is their parents, find a good therapist and get their shit together. They don’t need Oprah or Dr. Drew, the need someone who is not a fame whore to get them through.

By no means am I a Miley or Linsday fan. I honestly know one song of Miley’s and I fucking hate it. I’m just saying that it is all Madonna’s fault and is fueled by the media. End of story.

But continuing on with the VMA’s. I tuned in for one reason, NSYNC. That is all. I watched the show sporadically because I either don’t know the presenters/artists or don’t care about them. Kevin Hart is ignorant and not funny. And really there is an award now for Best Music Video with a Social Message? Huh?

But I digress, I wanted to see the NSYNC reunion, because while I am way to old for One Direction, I used to jam to NSYNC (which I might have been too old for then to, but with today’s cougar guidelines, maybe not). So as I watched JT dance around the stage for what I am pretty sure was an entire dog year, I kept saying, where are JC & Lance? Then another tune would start, not that you could hear Justin singing. I thought, “hey clever, he is working his way backwards through his solo hits to his NYSYNC days”. And then another hour passed and still no JC & Lance. Not even Chris or Joey showed up. Then another hour and finally there they were. And then there they weren’t. Seriously could they have spent less time on stage together? It was like the Destiney’s Child reunion…only with NSYNC and not outside at a football game. And then JT continued to do more music for another hour. And then he spent two seconds saying thank you for an award all while wearing a very questionable shirt. Seriously was that like a mistake or was he paying homage to Macklemore by going to the Thrift Shop?

I don’t care for MTV at all. They don’t show music videos. Instead they fill the air waves with Catfish and Teen Mom and something ridiculous called either Ridiculous or Ridiculousness, either way it is a ghetto Tosh.0, complete with some douchebag, not slightly funny “host” and a couch of select skanks. Sounds just right for MTV.

Remember when they used to have the countdown? And the shows they aired related to music or pop culture in some way? Hello Remote Control, oh how I miss you. And in later years they had TRL and Making the Video. And now they have shows that glorify teen pregnancy and duping online love interests.

And that is my commentary on the VMA’s and MTV in general.
