MXE is an abbreviation for Methoextamine, often described as a research chemical as a relatively new drug invented circa 2008. It is also known as 3’-MeO-2-Oxo-PCE. It is a chemical analog to therefore reported to have similar desirable and unwanted effects to ketamine or “special K”, although MXE is generally considered longer-lasting and more potent. MXE also resembles stimulants and anti-depressants because it acts as a dopamine re-uptake inhibitor and a serotonin reuptake inhibitor respectively.

MXE, ketamine, DXM (often consumed from cough syrups), and PCP are all chemical analogs and part a group of psychedelics called dissociatives. Dissociatives are a class of hallucinogen which are NMDA receptor antagonists.

Compared to older dissociatives, it is more stimulating and euphoric than ketamine, but less than PCP.

While very consistent and long-term use of dissociative drugs could risk neurotoxicty and bladder damage, acute or occasional use does not.

The chemical effect on the brain of MDMA antagonists said to distort perceptions of sight and sound and produce feelings of detachment - dissociation - from the environment and self. This is done through changing signals to the conscious mind from other parts of the brain.

Dose

• Threshold: 8 - 20 mg
• Light: 20 - 40 mg
• Common: 40 - 60 mg
• Strong: 50 - 100+ mg

When I started doing MXE I did increments of 20mg sublingually¹ but quickly preferred plugging² due in part to the poor taste of the powder, but, I also prefer the effects of rectal ROA³. Compared to oral ingestion, rectal will have quicker and more dramatic high onset, but will not last as long. (If you want a longer high, you will find you can just do more MXE, which makes it a bit riskier as a habit forming substance compared to other psychs.)

After taking MXE and building some tolerance my typical doses were 100-200mg, but when I wanted to use a high dose I would try 400-600mg.

There are no reports of poisoning oneself on MXE that I am aware, so I am not concerned with ODing myself, but I would not try high doses without experience and tolerance. From Bluelight I have heard descriptions of regular users dosing as much as 1200mg.

The risk I would worry about with MXE is doing some kind of out of character behavior while under the influence. So, as always, be cautious and don’t intoxicate yourself around hazards and untrustworthy people.
