Outline a “mission statement” for your life.

Hmm.

I took a day to think about this. It was difficult, but here goes.

First of all, what IS a mission statement? The most basic definition is “a formal summary of the aims and values of a company, organization, or individual.”

I perused the rest of the suggestions and found a site that shows ideas for a mission statement and saw the template for one.

“It defines what the company does for its customers.
It defines what the company does for its employees.
It defines what the company does for its owners.
Some of the best mission statements also extend themselves to include fourth and fifth dimensions: what the company does for its community, and for the world.”

Let’s tweak that a bit as the prompt refers to me as an individual. Instead of using “customers,” let’s use “other people.” What do I do for other people? I am kind, polite, compassionate, and respectful.

Employees? Let’s change that to students. As a leader, I show my values in my everyday life, as I believe in teaching by example. I try to take and turn incidents into a learning experience for myself, but a teachable moment for others.

Owners? Switch that to prospective businesses; be it going shopping, eating out, or going to the doctor’s office. Granted, I fully expect services I pay for. However, that doesn’t mean I get to be a dick to try and get free shit, either. Being polite and taking care of the people who help you gives you a definite advantage. People remember my best friend and I every time we go out to eat at many restaurants because not only do we tip, but we make sure we tell the manager that their staff was amazing, from the cook to waitstaff to the host/ess.

And finally, what do I do for my community? When I am passionate about something, I put all my effort into that passion. I work hard to help our veterans, our homeless, and those with mental health issues. I would set up events to raise funds, or even ask for the donations of items needed. I volunteer my time to talk to those who don’t have someone to talk to.

So. I guess in the end?

Georgie’s Mission Statement:
To be kind, polite, and respectful to everyone in my everyday life. I will show my values and teach them by living them. I will take care of those who serve and/or help me. I will use my passion, drive, and hard work to help those in the community who need it.
