Today was the day that Bob had to go in for a heart cath. He has had a stenosis (heart murmur) that the cardiologist has been watching carefully for awhile now. Doctor was trying to get an okay to order a valve replacement and Bob has been right on the line of the criteria. So this procedure was part of his plan. Yes, it did meet the criteria today. BUT! They also discovered that he had developed three clogged arteries. He had had a cath two years ago and there was no sign of this. We were all totally surprised. Action is required. We aren’t in emergency mode, but close to it. Options: stint implants (probably two procedures) and yet another thru-the-artery thing to replace the leaky valve; or one open-heart surgery to take care of all the problems at once. Either option has good and bad features. A CAT scan is being scheduled and then we will sit down with the cardiologist and make a decision based on his recommendation.
Isn’t it lucky that this problem was discovered before he had that big heart attack that was bound to come?
