Still treading water. in A small but passable life.

I finished reading “419” by Will Ferguson. A nice little novel. I guess it would fall under the “suspense” sub-genre. Not something I’d normally pick up and read, but it was the next in my pile beside my chair.

Now I’m back to the Magill edition of “Masterpieces of World Philosophy in Summary Form”. The 1166 page tome that I’d set aside in April of 2017 and left with Daughter when I returned to the desert. She had given it back to me when I was there last October. I’m up to the early 1700’s in the thing. Page 454.

Daughter will arrive here a week from tonight. When Mom and I were out yesterday, to take her to Walmart for her nail appointment, we stopped by Bed, Bath & Beyond. I found Daughter a blanket, as there are no extras here. I found a nice one for $39.95 with $10 off plus a 20% off coupon. So yeah, $24? Not bad.

I still haven’t found a viable pirate site to catch up on my shows. I guess they’ll always be out there to catch up on in the future.

I found a little portable DVD player in the house. I brought it out here to see if it works. And it does. Now I’m slowly working through my DVD collection that Daughter had mailed to me. Some are missing, but I can’t think of exactly what is missing other than Toy Story and Big Bambu. There are 44 movies, a half dozen collections, and a couple of documentaries. Yeah, it was $40-something to mail them out here in one big box. Now I don’t know what to do with them other than watch them again and again whenever I get bored.

Oh yeah, while we were at Walmart we stumbled across a 24” LED TV for $88. Mom wanted it to put in her bedroom so she could put the bedroom one out here in her sewing room and get rid of the ancient one (CRT). Whatever. The one in the bedroom was a 20” she’d bought several years ago for $100. I think at Best Buy. The new one almost didn’t fit on the shelf in her bedroom.

That is the fourth perfectly working old TV that we’ve replaced here. And the last one. I guess it’ll save on electricity. Whatever.

Not counting the day she arrives and the day she’ll be leaving, Daughter will be here for twenty days. I’ve already explained to Mom that we’ll be doing whatever Daughter wants to do. And maybe that will entail doing NOTHING. She’ll be on VACATION. So deal with it.

Anyway, it’s lunchtime and then maybe I’ll head to the pool. The sun is shining bright and the forecast says the afternoon may warm up to about 70 degrees. Perfect!
