Hi there all and hope all is well with all of you!Well, there have been changes since my last entry if you are interested!
About a month ago, the pain in my back suddenly became much worse and almost constant. All my progress so far di sappeared.Yes I can still walk, however, definitely need cane and walker.Strangely I am almost free of pain lying flat in bed!I had an appointment with the Orthopaedic surgeon on 21st November so was sort of pleased I hadn’t canceled it!They did a new set of X-rays and found out that the two vertebrae in bottom lumbar spine had crashed completely and had trapped the sciatic nerve permanently causing the constant pain. So thats what it was! The x-rays were a wonderful teaching tool as I could actually see the nerve squeezed between the crumbling vertebrae.Very sobering. The reason I can lie flat is because it relaxes my sine and pain eases.
Well the upshot is ,that unless I want to be in dreadful pain for the rest of my life and end up in a wheelchair in a couple of years,I NEED an operation! Now, I do not want to be a grumpy old lady which I would become,so I am going to submit to surgery. It will be May/June next year.Big operation as he ,the surgeon wants to fuse the 2 vertebrae directly above the collapsed ones as they are crumbling fast as well then release the sciatic nerve and cage all the bits and pieces of the bottom two and reinsert them in my spine.
Don’t get me wrong, I am still terrified of the surgery, and will be until I wake up afterwards alive so this is a hUGE thing. So is the pain and the prognosis. I have to give up smoking which is going to be very difficult as I enjoy smoking, however, bone healing will be delayed or not happen at all if I keep smoking as nicotine is poison to bone healing! So after Xmas/New Year, I am going to give up the fags!Gotta have the op!6-8 hours of reconstruction under anaesthetic!Phew!!Scary!
I have a bone scan in late january and a CT scan then as well so the surgeon can plan the op and also check out the rest of my spine which is now affected by arthritis to a level parallel with my bottom rib. Then wait til an appointment for Surgery!.The surgeon is very well respected and does many similar ops all the time.Peter Robertson. I find it difficult to go out at night as when I come home my legs are sore and pins and needles and restless so can’t sleep!I am back at Toastmasters now and enjoy it so much it is worth the pain. Our last meeting for the year is Monday week so thats good.I won’t go the Xmas BBQ as standing is so painful. So that is ME now.I won’t be putting anthing on FB as it is my business, not the worlds!

I am going to enjoy this Summer as much as I can as I couldn’t do anything last Summer!Janet is so staunch and accompanies me to all appointments and takes Taitai and I to the beach every week so the good little dog can run free and yesterday he took 2 swims!he is such a treasure! She and I are a team as we get on so well and Penny is so busy with a flul time job and 3 teenagers!Chloe, her eldest (18) is going to University next year so her load will ease. The other two,Olivia and Paige are 15 and 12 doing very well at school.Janets eldest daughter Samantha 22, is coming home on Tuesday from 7 months away in Austria at a big Equestrian Centre for 5 months and 2 months travelling through Europe so will be lovely to see her and her son Jimmy 15 is very well also.is growing like a sprout and doing well at school.
And next Wednesday my darling son Richard and his partner Tina are coming up for 4 days for some R and R.I haven’t seen them for months so will be wonderful and I will have huge hugs!

I am also back at Church and am doing the welcome this Sunday and the readings once a month.I cannot bear not being social anymore!I love my fellow churchgoers and they have been incredible this last year.Faith gives me strength and comfort and I need all of that.
Janet went over and above the call of duty yesterday as well. Some of you will remember that in the past 8 years I have had 4 floods at my place as in a bad storm with heavy rain water drains from the main road down the drive and to my little abode!Everything ends up here.Well this weekend there is a storm forecast with heavy rain and we had one last weekend as well and there was a big build up of silt and gravel and leaves blocking the ramp my son built last year for me and the big drain that releases all the flooding into the paddocks below.
Janet grabbed the spade and wheelbarrow and got to work lifting the ramp and filling the huge wheelbarrow with all the rubble and leaves in the hot sun and after beach walk and visiting the Cemetery to main tain our beloved hubby and Dad Richies resting place.
I didn’t even have to ask her!She also fixed my washing machine last week!Superwoman at 52!I am going to get my son to fix my patio gate and clean up my patio!Families are the best aren’t they!
So it rolls on to xmas!We have yet to finalise dinner plans and I look forward to it.So just in case I don’t do another entry before then: Have a wonderful Xmas and New year and all the blessings that go with it.I am not mentioning politics or world events as am sick of politics and there is little I can do about world events.
God Bless and best love

well, I for one am not surprised you will need to get that operation done, it was always on the cards. And you will understand my delight at you giving up smoking too, I am sure that has not been helpful to your health.
Well done Janet, you can rightly be proud of her...a wonderful daughter indeed. My Rachel is a wonder as well..always there over and above the call of duty. Despite all the difficulties and pains, we are truly blessed in many ways. I hope Richard hugs you gently, and I will be in touch before Christmas. huggles xxxx

I would not want to have surgery either, but if it would get me out of the pain you are in I would wish I didn't have to wait so long to get it.
