Incrementally Making My Way in Everyday Ramblings

There were some technical issues with our annual work upgrade and in spite of a major effort to contain the work to last night… it leaked over into today but it is done!!!
This is my 11th of these and it is my least favorite part of the job. It has gotten progressively better over the last 5 years but the fundamental dysfunction of my work environment is always on display in a frustrating way.
Ten years ago I moved into the place I am living now on the day we did the upgrade so compared to that day, with Mr. Finch so winded and us not understanding why, today was a piece of cake.
The cool thing is that if “stuff” goes according to plan I won’t ever have to do this again! We are anticipating that Saint Joe will be doing this next year.
Speaking of Saint Joe: crazy man is at an all-inclusive resort in Cancun all week and checking his email. Nothing, absolutely nothing we do is that important.
I blame our boss for this, who does report to the Executive Leadership Team, and recently on a vacation to Hawaii, told us he would be checking his email. Saint Joe, who is naturally anxious anyway, took his cues from this.
Yesterday in my work class I only had one student, our fabulous Administrative Coordinator, and I asked him to make sure to give Saint Joe a hard time about this when he returns next week as my work companion is not going to listen to me on this.
I don’t miss being ambitious for a promotion.
Because I had to work this morning unexpectedly I had to flip my whole weekend schedule and that made me grumpy but I decided that I could get a track workout in before I had to sign in and it is not raining and the shift in wind is helping with the air quality that we are all dealing with here on the West Coast.
Too early for the Lacrosse parents!
The sunrise was gorgeous and you can see the mountains today, which is very unusual for late November.
And! I had a personal best, in my timed workout this morning. Back in late August one of the sports medicine doctors told me in a slightly exasperated tone that all I needed to do was modest workouts regularly for 8 weeks and I would be able to run comfortably enough to run with a slow group.
I am now on week 10. I had begun to despair that I would make any progress at all. I have found myself trying to manage my disappointment (not very effectively) after putting all this work in.
Last night I was tired and blue and decided to go to bed super early and I think that almost 9 hours of sleep helped in my quest for the best.
Don’t get me wrong, I am relieved in a way to have had the heart condition identified even though my cholesterol levels are awesome and my high blood pressure wasn’t that high…I have reoriented my whole focus of activity to be heart healthy but I just get so annoyed when I see so many people, so very many people running easily, la la la when it is so effortful for me.
I decided this morning that I can do this thing, learn to run comfortably at a slow pace with normal breathing well enough that in another 10 weeks or so I can think about a acquiring a running partner or engaging in a 5K.
The ramp up is just going to take me twice as long as Dr. Super Fit said.
Next week I am only working three days and I am not working a minute of overtime. No. Nada. Absolutely not. I am only teaching two classes instead of three too.
Mrs. Sherlock decided to skip church tomorrow so we can go walking in Lake Oswego to this new hiking place she found and I am very much looking forward to that.
