(Disturbed Song from this morning’s commute).
OH. MY. G! The morning commute seriously felt SO LONG! Seriously. I hate mornings. I left my apartment at 7:11 a.m. I got into my office at 7:58 a.m. That is a door to door time of 47 minutes. I know other people have it worse but… ugh. I’m so sick of it. That is the one part of the job I’m starting to feel as “completely unable to tolerate.” I am very curious to discover my average Door to Door time after the move!
The move. SO… today is Wife’s first day of not working. She’s spending the coming two and a half weeks cleaning, packing, and visiting her parents. A potential issue arises when you compare what she told the Apartment with when our Closing Date is. She needs to be out of the apartment at end of business day October 31st. Our Sign & Close Meeting is scheduled for 4:30 on October 31st. THAT could be a problem. Wife’s suggested fix? Storage Unit in IF to move stuff to. My suggestion? Why add multiple moves… just tell the apartment office that there was a delay with closing and see if they will let you extend your departure by 7 days at a prorated amount so you can do Apartment to House move instead of Apartment to Storage Unit to House move? We’ll see what happens.
Kind of… backtracking a little… the weekend was alright. Friday was spent mostly just… being super tired. Wife was on her monthly, so even if there was a possibility for Romance or Passion, it was a firm impossibility this weekend. Saturday wasn’t a game day, per se, but a friend wanted to introduce his girlfriend to us so it was a Board Game Night. One of the games we played was Geek Out, a game involving Geek Trivia where each team “bids” on how many different answers they can provide for the category asked. For example, one might be “Batman Rogues Gallery.” One team starts by saying, “I can name 2” the other responds with “I can name 3” and it goes on like that until at last all teams are like, “I can’t beat that. Name 12.” Then the team that bid twelve has to name 12 members of Batman’s Rogues Gallery. Funny thing is… there were 7 people there total. So, however we split teams… one team would have more team mates. But everyone was pretty much terrified of how strong a team Wife and I would make, so it was 2 on 5 Geek Out. They were right to be scared. At the end of the game, they had scored 6 points (things like ‘Name Video Games with Female Lead Characters) but Wife and I won with 9 points. (Categories like: Name Different Planets in Sci Fi, Name Iron Man’s Enemies, Name Superheros Who Wear Capes, Name Citizens of Gotham City.) So… 2 on 5, we still won.
Sunday was hanging out with Dad, Bro, SIL, and Niece. It was good but… Bro was being Bro. A long, frustrating, drawn out discussion that didn’t end anywhere. My brother, it appears, does not understand why (and does not see a need for) Domestic Assault is a separate criminal complaint. He could not understand why “Domestic Assault” and “Assault” should be different things because (direct quote) “It is no different if I punch a guy on the street versus if I punch my wife.” But then… this is a man who finds the fields of psychology and behavioral sciences to be bunk. SO when I tried to explain the significant difference between punching your street thug out of anger and punching your wife to control her; he retorted that both are expressions of a desire for power and should not be separated into two different laws. As I said:: Frustrating.
My day today should be pretty slow which is bad cuz I’m tired. As for my week?
(1) E-Mails and Phone Calls, because obviously
(2) Plan for Wednesday’s Magistrate Morning
(3) Plan for Thursday’s Pretrials
(4) Plan for the 11 Bench Trials scheduled next week.
If it looks thin and not at all busy, that is because we had all anticipated a 5 day out of county jury trial on an A Felony. That got continued in the 11th Hour, so… a whole week anticipated to be High Theater, Intense Drama, and long nights of strategy and prep.... now, not so much. Which leaves us with five days where we were certainly sure that we would be jumping through hoops to accomplish anything. So I suppose imagine that visual. A large circus tent, where it was expected to be filled with patrons, clowns, animals, performances. The back stage crew had already set everything up, as soon as the performers arrived, everything would be perfect to start up. But the performers never arrived. The crowds never arrived. So you just have an empty tent. Empty, except for the advanced prep crew and their work.
Ugh. Ufda. It really shouldn’t surprise me as it is getting colder outside and I am still doing the long driving… but my back and legs are super unhappy today. :( It is that pain that tells me I’m not fully awake… or that, if I had fully woken up, I was on the other side of it… tired enough to sleep again.
By the way, I love all of you guys but… wow! It seems like many of you may have had QUITE the weekend!! I was 100% caught up on all bookmarks at the end of Friday. Come back today and 3 FULL pages of unread entries! Good on you!
As I try to catch up in Prosebox, attorneys are sending me e-mails left and right asking for clarification or plea deals on their cases. I answer them as I can but these are not easy decisions. 1 gentleman has 7 different open cases at the moment. So I need to quickly and carefully craft deals that will (1) prevent 7 trials from needing to be scheduled; (2) seem strong enough that I can justify the pleas to the press should they ask, and (3) be so lenient as to give the defendant no other option BUT to take what I offer.
This is becoming a random blurb text wall. I really should throw some pictures or funny stuff up here. But what to share? My mind right now is thinking of specific things:
(1) SLEEP. Want more sleep! (2) Fallout 4. Want to 100% Fallout 4. (3) Overwatch. Halloween Event and I need that Banshee Moira Skin. (4) House. Want to get move started and ended and both apartments gotten rid of and just have House. (5) AND can’t forget… I want to exercise so I feel better, but I don’t feel good (sore, pained, tired) so it is hard to exercise; but I know that if I exercise I’ll feel less sore and tired, but I might feel more pained, and it would take a lot of my time which I already don’t have, but I should do it but I don’t want to do it.
