now and again in poetry

the past was a terrible place to live
but the good news is everyone was used to it
so they thought it was all just normal

the now is a terrible place to live
but the bad news is everyone is used to it
so they think this is all just normal

the future will be a terrible place to live
but the good news is everyone will be used to it
so they will think it is all just normal

if you hope to do any good in the world
if you hope to make this place less terrible
the key is to never get used to what’s bad
the key is to never give a damn about normal
the key is to stand outside of time and ask
“how can we make this all hurt less?”
the key is to never just accept it
