The morning after the night..... in blackpropaganda

It was a different night out.

The Burns Night supper went off pretty well - the best part was the actual meal which was superb - hot, tasty and served well. We had enough wine since most people were not drinking too much on our table - and we had had a lift from our friends - so no problem for me in getting in to the Rioja.

The worst part was the speeches - traditional for the occasion - especially the tribute to the immortal memory of Rabbie Burns. You need someone immersed in the poetry of Burns to do it well - and the fellow who did it basically did not know much but mugged it all up - and went on too long - and the audience by that stage had consumed quite a lot of drink and got a little rowdy!!!. For instance when he said Burns then fell ill and died there were cheers and a lot of clapping hoping this was the end of the speech.

Other speeches were made by some people unused to public speaking and used the traditional approach of filling them with unconnected jokes - some of which were quite funny - but not always told well - but they went down well with the punters.

And - I love watching couples out for the evening - getting quite drunk - and the ladies in their finery losing a bit of their shine - the men either ignoring them or finding an opportunity to engage in conversation with someone else's wife. I always wonder what happens in their houses when they get home - either major drunken shagging - or recriminations!!!

Anyway - a blast from the past
