So back in the summer of 2017 (4th of July to be exact) the Red Robin at the Tucson Mall closed its doors after 30something years. Rent dispute or something. Not sure. We frequented that place because we lived nearly down the street.
Wasn’t a big deal once we moved but we did miss it.
Anywho they recently reopened on the south side in one of the many developing pads of land around town. I picked up Randy from work and told him immediately I was not interested in cooking tonight. I had cooked Monday and Tuesday and two days in a row is difficult for me.
So he said he wanted a burger. A good burger, not like a McD’s burger. So we scanned the possibilities. Lindy’s, Habit, D&B’s, then remembered about RR.
It was raining all day so the streets were gross and traffic was terrible. He wanted to stop by HD to talk to his old boss and tell him what had happened this year since he hadn’t seen him in a while.
Went to RR and got say around 5:07 pm.
5:15ish we ordered....
5:20 a couple gets sat behind us, they order....
5:30 a table of like 8 with kids gets sat, they order.....
5:40 and no food.
5:45 couple behind us gets their food. Followed almost immediately by the large table.
That’s when we said something. Luckily one of the managers had brought out the food for the large table. We asked where our food was and she went to check. By this time our waiter had checked several times, brought us out a basket of fries and refilled our teas a couple of times.
5:55…Manager lady comes out and squats by our table.....that is usually a bad sign lol. “So there was an oversight in the kitchen and your food is being made and will be out very shortly.”
Aka it got lost somehow....I honestly do not know how the heck this ALWAYS happens to us. It’s kind of an epidemic. It happens about once out of every 5 times we eat out. I wish I was joking. And it’s not always the full meal, but sometimes a part of the meal that is forgotten and then we get charged for it. Like a couple weeks ago I took Randy to The Keg to celebrate his new job and whatnot. His meal was a packaged deal. Salad and entree.
They asked us if we wanted bread and we did, but never got it. The salad never came out, and then our entree came out. When the waiter came to ask us how everything was, we mentioned the bread and the salad.
Sometimes it’s a matter of “Oh we are sorry, here’s a free soda.” The manager at The Keg took the salad off the ticket, even though it was initially part of the package and the entire price of that particular meal. Whatever right?
Then there’s these type of people who make us value our patience. The manager lady, Wendy, brought us out our food and said, “I’m taking care of your meal tonight, I apologize for the wait and thank you very much for your patience. PLEASE leave room for dessert.”
So we ate our meal which was delicious. Then we ordered a donut tower for dessert. Guess what, they were out of donuts lol. So we ordered this other stupidly massive ice cream cake thing. They gave us each one. OMG.
So we sat there and mowed that down. Well most of it. It was giant. Then she came out when we were done and we had her run the card for the tip for the waiter because he was awesome the whole time. She Then hands us a little card that says “free” something or other on it and says, ” thank you again for your patience, come back next time and you can get your donut tower on us. I’ll be here for another 2 weeks, ask for me and I would love to hear about your experience!”
I can’t make this shit up you guys lol. We Never go anywhere and expect anything free. We are just patient. I told my cousin about what happened at Longhorn in Albuquerque (similar, but we never even got acknowledged to begin with). Her reaction was “I would have got up and left after 15 minutes.” Yeah well we got a $90 lunch for free.
So yeah we definitely are the type of people that will wait and speak to a manager. If the manager isn’t willing to work with us or has a “don’t care” attitude about their shitty service, then we leave. But how is management going to know their service is shitty if they don’t get feedback.
We’ve also had experiences where the food was bad or little things like presentation or something just not right with the food. We’ve spoken to the manager and it gets resolved, and we are often thanked by them for letting them know they need to improve something. That’s how they learn from their mistakes.
