forget all the living
it’s all ‘bout the dead
you can’t blame genetics
it’s all in your head

they look and they judge
and size up your clothes
all dressed in black
three rings on your nose

standing in bright light
all shiny and clean
not worth a nickel
if you know what I mean

just give me a shadow
a darkened old soul
and leave all the saints
for St Peter’s last roll

not one knows of heaven
as a matter of fact
chagrined I would be
if all onyx and black
