Day 4 in Ponderings of the Universe

Day 4 at the fair was a shorter one and almost didn’t happen. Started the day at the dentist where they didn’t believe that the results I get with a manual toothbrush weren’t from a sonic one, so that’s nice to hear lol. Then mom and I went to Herbergers (two of them) for the last time before they all closed for good :(

Then we were hearing reports of it getting stormy and maybe some 70 mile an hour winds. But we decided to go to the fair anyway. My thought was, some of those buildings have been there for ages, just head for them if the weather gets terrible.

So we made the potentially poor life choice and went.

Look how wonderfully empty it is!

Look at the other hearty fair-goers who have come in from the downpour!

Look at my alcoholic beverage!

NEW FAIR FOOD #17: This was from the Hideaway in the Grandstand, which is speakeasy themed. The beverage, whose name I cannot remember, involved lime juice, ginger beer and sparkling elderflower wine. A+, would recommend.

I also had a massive sandwich that involved smoked salmon and some kind of flavored mayo and capers on pumpernickel. Yum.

NEW FAIR FOOD #18: This was a freezy beer drink that was I strawberry basil flavored from the Blue Barn. Would also recommend. Very refreshing and seemed more alcoholic than it should have been, but in a good way.

Then mum and I split a delicious hot dog.

NEW FAIR FOOD #19: Sweet Greek Cheese Puffs from Dino’s. They were phyllo dough with feta and ricotta inside, deep fried, and topped with honey and powdered sugar. Super tasty!

And on a whim, we decided to see if there were tickets left for the Righteous Brothers/Beach Boys concert. We heard some people talking about how it was either sold out or there were only single seats available, but when we went to the box office window (rather than checking only), we were given the option of 2 seats together, on the main level, in the center, only 23 rows back. We went for it!

The Righteous Brothers....or rather, one Righteous brother and guest. They were excellent. Even though Bill Medley is showing his age, you could tell how amazing his voice must have been in its heyday.

alt text

The Beach Boys! Or rather…mostly Mike Love and I think one of the less popular later joining Beach Boys.

alt text

Mike Love sounds kind of like Kermit the Frog, but in a good way.

Oh, and did you know that John Stamos sometimes tours with the Beach Boys?

alt text

There he is, on the right with the flashy guitar. It was amusing, but he was also kind of irritating. Trying to steal the spotlight too often and make it the John Stamos show.

John Stamos’ stage hogging aside, it was a GREAT show! It was so much fun to hear all that happy music :) Made me remember how much Beach Boys music I really enjoy.

Ended the night with some fireworks. We were definitely out past our bedtimes lol!
