The first of today’s junk phone calls was from a credit card help place. They wanted to reduce my interest. But before I could quality I had to have a balance of $5000.

Honestly, it would kill me to spend $5000, but to please the voice on the phone I could consider it. So....

Let’s spend $5000.

I suppose that amount of money would fix the siding, replace the crown moldings over the windows, paint the house and install eave troughs. If I have any money left over I might consider some insulation.

There. That was easier than I thought.

Anyone care to work up an estimate for me?

========

I did spend some money last week. I bought myself a new toaster and a new coffee maker - both on the same day.

As close readers of my diary know my toaster was only toasting bread on on. e side, necessitating several trips to toaster for each toasting experience. I had to turn the pieces of bread around and retoast the untoasted side. Plus I had to pay attention so I would not toast the same sides twice. I mean it’s not rocket science, but it’s higher toaster operation.

Not sure if I’d told you but Mr. Coffee was getting recalcitrant. In other words, slow. His plumbing was getting plugged up and as cheap as I am I do not do the vinegar/water method of unplugging coffee pots. I have tried it in the past and found it only partially effective. And you have to do it over again right away anyway.

Since the kids were coming for the weekend and since they like to have a functioning coffee pot and a functioning toaster, I figured I should go shopping. I thought I would shop locally. I went to out small town’s version of a discount store and found them totally sold out of small size coffee pots.

So I decided to drive the 20 miles to the closest Walmart. I needed groceries too and that would make it a one stop trip (not counting the abortive attempt at shopping locally.)

This is where the story gets murky. I found either the coffee pots or the toasters first. I can’t remember. I think it was coffee pots. Anyway, either way, let’s assume coffee pots. They did not have the exact one I had had in the past, but I got the one that was the closest - a small cheap one. There was an even cheaper one but I thought do I want the cheapest coffee pot? I thought not. So I put the second cheapest coffee pot in my cart and went looking for toasters.

Toasters were a little like coffee pots. I wanted a simple cheap toaster. The cheapest was a cousin of the cheapest coffee pot. It was black, simply designed and cost eight dollars and change. I decided to get it.

Then I decided to go back and get the matching black simple cheapest coffee pot which was the same price. So now I have matching brand new counter appliances. Wonder if they make corn poppers? Then I’d really be stylin’.

It’s almost a week now and both toaster and coffee are working fine. I’m trying to keep them unplugged when not in use so they don’t burn the house down.
