Burning questions in Site Updates

Side note: there is the most crazy thunderstorm going on right now. Can't remember the last time it was so loud and shaking the walls. Guess I'll try to post this before the power goes out or something.

So, before I go on vacation for a week, I thought I would open things up for Q and A. Do you have burning questions about what's next for Prosebox? Things you may have asked and I just haven't provided an answer for yet? I'll try.

Also, we've passed 1,500 users so that's a pretty sweet milestone.

And before you ask, I do have some ideas for improving bookmark listings, like breaking things down by user. And comment editing/deletion is also on the to-do list. OK I'm going to run for cover. This lightning is getting INSANE.

Thanks for all these updates =] The site really is beautiful. Clean, efficient, and the different "books" are awesome.

Quick question: sometimes when I write an entry that includes any sort of html (bolded text, links, simple stuff), paragraphs stop working. I'll publish my entry, and everything after the closed tag, even the new paragraphs, are on the same line, then I have to go back and edit everything by making everything double-spaced to get single-spaced paragraph breaks. Does that make sense? Just curious why this happens and if I can prevent it. Or if any other users have had this problem--it happens almost every time.

Also, is there a reason I can't resize images in html by adding in height/width specifications?

Again, this isn't a huge issue and sorry if it's annoying. Love the site.

Hmmm. Haven't really seen that happening on my end. I played around by throwing in some completely random HTML tags and it didn't seem to mess up my paragraph formatting. I'm guessing you mean that you need more than a single blank line to get the paragraph working? Guess I'd need to look at an example that is misbehaving and see what you've actually typed in.

Okay, well, I just wrote an entry called "Dumpster Diving" in my Prosebook "Wholesome" and the list at the bottom would be an example.

Kelly, here's how to resize images on Prosebox: http://www.prosebox.net/entry/1600/prosebox-faq-putting-images-into-your-entries/

Thanks =]

I've really come to love the look&feel of the site. I thought I would miss the customizability I was so used to from OD, but I'm really enjoying the simple layout and the fact that users are only distinguished through their avatars. I guess my question is, are you planning to make the site more customizable eventually, or are you going to stick with the minimalist style you have going now? Like I said, at this point I'm kind of in love with how it is now, but I'm not gonna protest if you're gonna add colors and fonts 'n stuff if that's what The People demand. =)

I've thought about adding themes as a potential premium feature, but it would still be clean. Potentially something like Twitter where you can have a background wallpaper or whatnot, but there are still clean boxes consisting of black text on white background. I'm a fan of clean when it comes to reading. Wouldn't want my books printed on yellow and pink striped paper, in green ink with a cursive font. :)

Linda simple mind ⋅ August 23, 2013

I really, really like the clean look. Not a fan at all of all the background fussiness.

I like this place's simplicity too.

Will there be a way (or is there currently a way and I just don't realize it!) to bookmark an individual book rather than a user? It may simply mean unbookmarking the user and going to each individual book and bookmarking it, but it seems that when I tried that, I was getting all the books that person contributes to. I may simply be confused. Thanks!

simple mind Deleted user ⋅ August 22, 2013

Yeah, that's one of the features I was meaning to address sooner but got distracted by other stuff. Actually, you would still bookmark the user, but could exclude books. That way you don't miss new books that your bookmared user creates. :)

Deleted user simple mind ⋅ August 23, 2013

Thanks, m'lord.

simple mind Deleted user ⋅ August 22, 2013

And no, it's not currently possible. Right now it's all or nothing for a user.

Deleted user simple mind ⋅ August 23, 2013

Thanks, again.

Echo August 22, 2013

Will there eventually be the ability to move entries from one book to another? Thanks!

simple mind Echo ⋅ August 22, 2013

Yup!

Bound and Tied August 22, 2013

Being able to respond to people's comments from the comments link would be amazing instead of having to go back to the entry.

simple mind Bound and Tied ⋅ August 22, 2013

Yes, I've also considered how awesome this would be. I want to do it.

woman in the moon Bound and Tied ⋅ August 25, 2013

I'd like this too.

Sal Fakename August 22, 2013

I've had a question for a while actually, but it doesn't relate to the features of the site.

Your symbol when you blog is the Coding Horror icon from Code Complete by Steve McConnell, but it's also the symbol of the blog of Jeff Atwood, codinghorror.com.

Which one did you get it from? Are you a fan of one, the other, or both?

simple mind Sal Fakename ⋅ August 23, 2013

Both, actually. I have Code Complete in my library and I read Jeff Atwood's blog. I'm guessing you are a software developer since you know this? :)

Sal Fakename simple mind ⋅ August 25, 2013

Sort of an amateur software developer, yeah.

Decayed Elvis August 22, 2013

I would like the ability to print free money from the site. And maybe Chinese food delivery.

Deleted user Decayed Elvis ⋅ August 23, 2013

ha!

woman in the moon Decayed Elvis ⋅ August 25, 2013

I want to Like this note..

Deleted user August 23, 2013

I'm gonna pull an "animal" moment here...NOOOO THEMES
Please...the site is so clean and lovely. I never realized how difficult it was to navigate pages with all the bad page designs and extra backgrounds.
It's actually relaxing to come here the way it is now and I, for one, love it.
It is your site though, so if you wanna change it, by all means...I'll just have to find pages without it to read.
Also, I LOVE the books! Freakin' awesome feature!
OK, I think I'm done rambling... :D

~jillybean~ August 23, 2013

please have a "are you sure you want to cancel" for entries. I hit cancel by mistake and it was all gone!

cricket_factor August 24, 2013

How do we center text here? I thought it was <center></center>

Thanks for your help.
