/230. 999,771 left to get to the million and one things I have to say. It’s been a while and I don’t plan to think much about what I’m going to say. Just say it.
/231. The two names at the bottom of the list are the ones with significance. I check to see if they have shown up. And then when they do, what do I do? Mainly nothing. I walk away from them as easily as they walk away from me. It’s how we like it. Icky, and a bit painful.
/232. Jim has a graduation party this morning. Yes, this morning - from 8 am to noon-ish. It’s the second daughter of one of his highschool friends, a big family of handsome and good kids. There is a card and a twenty dollar bill on the table. He will do the signing and the licking of the envelope.
/233. I see the corn planter in the yard. Dusty. Semi-almost antique, it plants four rows at a time and can do no-till to various degrees. The co-op has been here and at other locations with fertilizer. A semi-nurse truck lounged on the gravel yesterday. I suppose the more visibility the county can give them the better. Someone’s son was the applicator driver yesterday. Someone with significance, but I cannot remember who. Spring brings out a diverse work force. The co-op guy who schedules the work said to Jim he wished all his farmers were like him. And Jim said you mean small fields on hilly twisty gravel roads?
/234. Gracie is a terrible dog. She went through a whole family of semi-grown rabbits the other night. We wouldn’t let her ride in the car after that. Today she chased the cats away from her food dish. Bad, bad Gracie.
/235. I got three more years of drivers license yesterday. The woman at the treasurers office who took care of me is an old work friend. We share Irishness. She cheered me through the eye test so that I have no restrictions. I only wear my glasses when I drive - they make things look a little crisper, but I always say I see the same stuff with or without them, and she pretty much agreed. The license is for three years and cost twelve bucks. I have a temporary one, the real one comes in the mail in an unmarked envelope.
/236. I voted yesterday too. Took my fresh paper license across the hall to the auditor’s office and voted early. I voted for Norris for governor - he has done everything, he came to see us a lot - I actually saw him speak three times. I’m not sure if that’s a reason to vote for him - well it is because I liked him. I voted for the young woman for congress. She has served two terms in the state legislature and she is tenacious. We really need to win some seats in congress. We need to win period. I hope I voted for the right people. I have a friend I call before primary elections to see who she likes. I didn’t do it this time. Maybe I still will.
/237. I was going to share my opinions on the royal wedding. I have some. Harry is marrying a divorced American actress of mixed race. But. She’s not Catholic. It was thought she might be because she went to a Catholic high school - but that was just because it was a better school. If I don’t think too hard I like the royal family. They provide entertaining service. They have a purpose. Oh well. I guess that’s about all I have to say. Engage me in notes if you want more.
/238. I haven’t switched to ice in my coffee cum milk yet. Maybe soon.
/239. I guess no matter how useless the royals may be they are better than the US’s gun culture. Given a choice..... Of course it looks like we are stuck with guns. It’s one of those plate spinning things. We can’t quit. We can’t seem to do anything about it. But we can’t keep on this way either. As I’ve said a million times, I hate guns and I do not have any except for the antique wall decoration and the .22 rifle that is either here or at the other farm. Gypsy is right, I should track it down. 22s can kill people too even if this particular one is pretty safe. I personally feel safe in my remote corner of the US. Gun violence is lightning that can strike anywhere, but I have white skin, I don’t go to high school, I’m safe.
/240. My joints still hurt and it’s hard to get up from the ground. I could have walked with Joana today but I didn’t. I’m down to 5 mg p-drug. Not sure if I’m doing myself a favor or not. In three and a half weeks I’ll be 72.
/241. The newspaper has not come since the day after I called. I’m ok without it. One less bit of clutter. I hate myself for saying that. Never thought I would but .... there it is.
/242. Still reading bits of Elizabeth Taylors bio. I watched a whole movie of hers the other night after midnight on YouTube. ‘The Last Time I Saw Paris’ made in 1954, based on an F. Scott Fitzgerald story with Van Johnson - did I tell you this already? it seems so familiar typing it - and Walter Pidgeon and Donna Reed and Ava Gabor and Roger Moore as a pup. Gabor was more of an actress than you would think. And Taylor was so beautiful. No one held a candle....
/243. Door to deck is still closed. I haven’t done anything more with my plants - though three more of my expensive cone flower seeds sprouted after I put them outside. Today might be the day. Lots of daffodils and lilacs are in bloom. My grandmother’s bleeding heart is almost at peak. Hostas and daylilies are doing what they can. Jim mowed the lawn and there are trails up through the orchard. It’s hilly and full of trees and wild berry bushes. It’s nice.
/244. This might be all for today. It’s what came to me, clearing the top of my head without going very deep. 999,757 items left on my way to a million and one. Silly me.
Have a good weekend everyone. Be good to those you love, to those you don’t too - they all deserve it. Pet the dog. Stoke the cat. Go for a walk even if I don’t. Come back soon and I will too.
