Moose sightings (the dog) in Misc. Thoughts opinions, the whole trash can.

Another week has passed, with Moose. Like a quote from The Tale of two Cities. “It was the best of times, and the worst of times”. Ten days have come and gone, since the last entry. Moose is getting better, and the training session for this Monday, was set back to this Friday at 100 pm. Mitch the dog trainer, as well as the foster for Moose, was sick.

Walking is getting better, but we have ”OUR moments. Sometimes we walk up toward, Summit View Elementary, and he is enthralled with the kids. We walk outside of the fence, since part of the “trail” goes by the playground. Stopping, whining, but we get past the distraction. The Easy Walker harness is really working out well. This past Tuesday, winter showed up again with a wet snowfall and 30 degree temperatures. The trail was wet, and me and the Moose, were the only ones, we took the fork toward Dad Clark Park and wound back around and back to the original trail. Moose got a little cranky and the leash tug of war ensued. Otherwise for 2.7 miles and about an hour out, it was good. This also includes stops to drain out, (etc), sniff, listen, and see if other dogs are out in their yards.

Invisible Fence came out last Wednesday, April 18th and looked at my “old” system, that I had with Bear and Cooper. The system check revealed 3 more line cuts, besides the one I found out back. The cut out back was spliced, and a jumper was made to test the integrity of the system. This past Monday, the new equipment was installed, a new jumper installed and the line tested. We also got an inside trainer, for Moose to get acquainted, with the collar and the tones and sensations. The warning is low and he gets a tone and a light vibration. The flags are set with a distance of 2.5 feet, and makes him walk around the area. It seems to be working, and I make sure he traverses the area regularly. This also is in the small hallway to the laundry room, where the food and water, is kept. There is a safe passage, but if he strays, the tone starts. White flags are also in the front and back yard. Yesterday, we figured out, hhmmm, no tone or buzzing with these so I’ll just help myself and remove em. Well, this is going change, this coming Monday. They will “up the voltage” so to speak, and activate the perimeter around the front and back yard. The lawn mowers are here today, so the flags in the grass are pulled and I’ll place them back, when they are finished. The third and final training for the fence will be on May 8th.

Joan is our housekeeper. She also has dogs and loves Moose. Well remember, I said Moose was a little wild around new people? I was shown by the Invisible Fence guy, that he needs a calming toy or doggie pacifier. Yep enter the “Chicken”, which he loves. Two minutes with the Chicken in his mouth and all is well. He follows her around everywhere. This “trick” also worked with the handyman, who is painting the inside of the garage, which he drywalled and insulated. He calmed down and was pleasant.

I think he is realizing, this is home now, and we have a consistent pattern. More training and Mr. Moose, will be a great dog , and not the out of control wild man he was 3 weeks ago.

The lawn guys have finished and we’ll be doing the walk soon, after the flags are placed back. Currently it is 47 degrees and cloudy. Smells wet, so maybe a little moisture, but who knows.
