Today has mostly been a nothing day. I slept most of the day because I did not sleep well last night. Then at 3, it was time to go to Dragon Lance DnD game. Wife had already started complaining because “seeing friends” and “doing something besides playing her Cell Phone games” was too much work? She actually criticized the Dungeon Master for being kind enough to create a character for her that was uniquely built to reflect her best features. She requested he do this. Now she’s complaining because after doing this, he expected her to come to the game.

We got to the game and… she was playing her Cell Phone Game. As I gathered our stuff and started walking to the apartment, she trailed far behind, playing her Cell Phone Game. During the game… she interacted a bit, which was good, but mostly played her cell phone game for the first 2 hours.

Then… an important and noteworthy thing or two.
(1) I got up, got a large mug of water and put Ice in it and some Mio. I got back to my chair, set the mug down, and Wife grabs it. Takes a sip, scrunches her face, and shouts “Gross. What did you do?!” I told her, “I made myself a glass of water with Mio.” She states, “I don’t like it!” I respond, “I did not make this glass for you, I made it for me. If you would like a glass of water, you may get one of your own.” She stood, took my glass, and poured some out and poured more water in. She sat back down, drank some, and said “No. I still don’t like that.” I reclaimed the mug of water I had poured, and continued to drink it. So I drank my water but she continued to make comments. “How can you drink that?” “How can you like that?” “Why are you still drinking that?” I pretty much tuned her out.
(2) Later, I got hungry. SO I grabbed some of the food that we had brought. Brought it back to my seat. Wife looked at me sideways and said, “Aren’t you going to heat it up?” “No,” I said, “I like it this way.” She rolled her eyes a bit and said, “Well what if I wanted some?” At this I simply rolled my own eyes (and in doing so caught the expression of one of the other gamers… an expression that said, “Is she really like this?!”) and said, “When you want to eat food, you can heat it up.”

Thing is? Yet another way that I see two sides of things. On one side, I got water for me… I got food for me… if Wife has a problem with that, fuckin’ deal. She’s a 38 year old woman that should be able to take care of herself. She should get her own water. She should get her own food. On the other side, I felt like a bad husband… like a bad “boyfriend/paramour”. Because a good partner considers his partner’s needs. A good partner would have gotten up to get her a glass of water and/or made her a plate of the food… right? I mean… I wouldn’t take back how I reacted. I was totally in the right. But… that is how alien this kind of thing is.

Luckily after a few hours of being around friends, Wife actually seemed to start enjoying herself despite herself. But that was short lived as the night came to an end. I drove us home and it was bed time. And that’s life.
