Passover 4/25/2005

Passover this year was amazing. I forgot that it was coming up, and didn't take off of work, so I couldn't go home. Mike invited me to his house on Sunday (yesterday) for diner so I could at least have a seder. I skipped work (I'm quitting in a week and a half, so I don't care) and went to Mike's house around 5pm. His brothers are really nice...shy but nice. His mom is sweet, but she's the polar opposite of my mother. She's very meek and almost subservient to her husband. Apparently, Paul, Mike's dad, gets into these ragingly bad moods randomly and his mother just sits back and lets him take it out on her and the boys (not physically, but still...). Mike's dad went even as far as to say to Mike and his brothers that he wanted them to stop living at home and go and get places of their own. Mike's mother didn't even try and dissuade Mike's dad. Now I know my mother has her flaws, but she would kill my father before she let him kick me or one of my siblings out of the house. My parents constantly urge me and my siblings to come and live at home after we graduate. Anyway, Mike's father called Mike Sunday morning when Mike and I were sleeping to tell Mike that the seder had been canceled because Mike's dad and mike's mom had gotten into a fight. (So you cancel your Passover seder with your family...?). We ended up having a seder anyway, just without Mike's dad.

The food was OK, but it was not even in the same league as my mother's. The soup was good but it had no seasoning in it. At all. Now I love matzo ball soup but it needs something other than matzo balls and chiciken broth. She didn't make derma or chirrosis or chicken...She made brisket, but it didn't have any sauce on it so it was kind of dry. I know I sound like a whining brat, but it just sort of shocked me how different her cooking is than my mother's. We hung out with Mike's brothers after dinner for awhile while the twins played guitar for me. Then Mike and I went downstairs to watch a movie and he played video games. I passed out around midnight or so, but Mike woke me up so I could change into PJs.

This morning was almost perfect except for the fact that we were in his house rather than mine. I felt weird being naked with Mike at his house where his family slept upstairs...but anyway...we were cuddling and there was soft rain outside...I loved it, everything just felt so peaceful. I had brunch with Mike and his brothers and then went home.
