An Angel Smiled in Gathering of Poetry and Fiction

So there I Am,
where everyone said I shouldn’t be.
My nerves are balls and knots,
tangled up inside of me.

I try not to show it.
See everything is fine?
If I make one wrong move,
will everything unwind?

I’m peeking around corners,
daring for only a small glimpse.
Hoping you don’t notice,
My eyes darting back to your lips.

You smile all the time now,
which is well overdue.
But how many of those smiles,
are really you?

I keep waiting for that special smirk.
It’s funnier than it should be.
Maybe like the one I wore,
when you dissected a frog with me.

And then it happened.
I got too close.
I thought you’d attack,
but you just said hello.

Then you hugged me,
buddy style.
I’m flying now.
I will be for a while.

How did you know?
Just what I needed?
Did she tell you?
Why I felt mistreated?

Maybe you just wanted to make sure,
I’d stick around for the smiles.
Maybe you were just in the mood,
to be a bit docile.

I don’t know what,
influences your choices.
Regarding me I feel so small.
I’m the silence among voices.

Did you know,
the power you had?
To make a heart soar,
and prevent the deep sad?

I love you dear friend;
Thank you so much!
Now all the anxiety,
is a small “hush”.

Tears of happy,
run down my face.
I wish you could share them;
It just feels like your place.

Right above me,
watching the emotion roll,
Enjoying every moment;
Guarding my soul.
