I think of my bewilderment in the reading on fb groups for widows to share their thoughts...so many lost their husbands years and years ago, decades ago and still...they seem to have made a profession of mourning. Living the old life, I suppose. But of course the response must be each person's choice.

yes, every situation different, and many women from past decades had very little outside interests apart from family. We are fortunate in many ways to live in a time when most women have options. hugs p

I think it's significant that it was the father-in-law who said it. Grief, and guilt and habit all mixed together, sometimes it's hard to set it all down or to get healthy perspective outside of if. Someone who also loved that person a lot can give permission that maybe we aren't always able to do.
