Amused. in A small but passable life.

The last day of 2017. Nothing special about it. I’ve got ham hocks and pinto beans and onions in the crockpot. Here in about an hour or so I’ll be making cornbread and fried taters.
I’ve finished the year with twenty-eight (28) books read. Another slow year. The two books I’m reading now will be finished sometime early next week. That will get next year going nicely.
Daughter still hasn’t called me. I’ll send her a “Happy New Year!” text at midnight her time, if she hasn’t called by then.
I had a crazy idea this morning while lying in bed waiting for 8am which was still almost two hours away. I thought about getting up and going out for a walk for a couple of hours and then drinking my morning coffee at the usual 8am. I mean, I could, I’m an adult able to do what I want, when I want. But alas, I didn’t. I stretched out and dozed off.
It would be easy to change the routine. To sleep (lie in bed with eyes closed) from 10pm until 6am rather than from midnight to 8am would not be a big change. Of course, to go out for a walk would mean donning socks and boots and maybe my flannel shirt for the forty-something degree cool mornings. But I could do it.
A New Year’s resolution? I hate to be cliché.
I watched the first episode of Season 4 of Black Mirror last night.
I think Shameless is back tonight.
So yeah, maybe 2017 will be remembered as the year reality slipped sideways and jumped the tracks. I mean, could it really get any more insane?
You got to admit, it is a hell of a show!
I’m just going to sit here and be amused.
