Thoughts On...Insulting Intelligence in Thoughts On...

I know that soap operas/daytime drama/the stories are supposed to be an escape and they take ALL the liberties and then some of fiction, but in this day and age…stop insulting my intelligence to make your shit work!

I am beyond frustrated with General Hospital (a recurring theme) and the Jason/Patient 6/Drew storyline. When news broke that Steve Burton was returning to GH, the question became “Who is Jason Morgan” as some three/four/five? years ago Billy Miller assumed the role and the show went above and beyond the norm at explaining the face change issue. My disappointment comes at how they decided that Steve Burton (the “original” Jason Morgan) would be Jason and Billy Miller would be his unknown to anyone twin Drew. Massive fail in my opinion.

I think it would have been more intriguing of a storyline to have SB be Drew and leave BM as Jason. I like the changes, the evolution of the character Billy Miller brought to Jason. The desire to leave the mob life behind, to be a legitimate business man. The change seemed almost full circle to pre-auto accident Jason and that was wonderful. I have never cared for post-accident, mob strong man Jason. The “fact” that Drew was a navy seal would have made sense for Steve Burton to assume that character and given him something to explore further. It would have given him and Tamara Braun a chance to have more scenes together as they would share a son and they already had that chemistry from the years she played Carly.

What pisses me off more than anything was the “discovery” and “proof” of identity. Fucking fingerprints?!?! Are you serious with this shit right now? Miraculously Jason’s prints were missing from the “system” . A system that is a major cog in the criminal justice system. Shit just does not go missing. Furthermore, the numerous times Jake/Jason had been arrested since returning to Port Charles, the fingerprints never once hit on Andrew Cain? That is until they ran them with the knowledge that Andrew Cain was one of these men. Fuck off. That is not how fingerprints work. Especially if you are trying to identify someone. For months they didn’t know who Jake was. They surely ran his prints and they never hit to Andrew Cain. And do you know why? Because he didn’t fucking exist until Steve Burton got bored in Genoa City and decided to come back to play the brooding old Jason. That is why and that is beyond fucking insulting.

I understand taking liberties in story-telling, but if you are going to use the same old soap tropes, try to shake it up a bit and make it more interesting. The long-lost/forgotten twin thing is played out. It is amazing how many women “forget” they birthed two babies at the same time. It is shocking that Alan Quartermaine, a doctor and Monica, his wife and also a doctor, didn’t realize Susan Moore was possibly carrying twins. And how does one just go missing from a hospital? Sure it was the seventies, but FFS it has been happening well into the 90’s and 00’s on various soaps. Why would Susan Moore have just pawned off one of the twins? They were both legit Quartermaines and that family is bank. Nobody thinks of the plot holes. Nobody thinks about what long-time watchers remember. And that is even more insulting.

I was fine with Franco being Scott & Heather’s son because the pieces fit together. Franco is somewhat nutty like his mom and somewhat of a schemer like his dad. It was amazing to watch, it was clever. This new Jason/Drew memory mapping story is fucking retarded.

On that note, I will give a kudos to the writers who were quick-witted enough to recognize that Andre & Jadrew arrived in town around the same time. A small kudos in an ocean of fuckery.
