Still Sick in Day by Day

I’m having a difficult time shaking this illness. It’s settled deep in my chest. If I can’t shake it by next week, it’s back to the doctor I go.

Not much else to report because I just haven’t done that much. I forced myself to go to the ballroom dance fundraiser last Sunday. I wanted to skip it, but as president, I couldn’t. Longest 3 hours of my life. Everyone was lovely and welcoming but when you feel crummy, everything is a huge effort.

I was so pleased to see Roy Moore defeated in Alabama. The drum beat is rolling. Republicans should take notice: backing sexual harassment is not a smart political move. November 2018 is going to right a lot of wrongs, methinks.

I’ve not done any holiday baking but have managed to get cards out. I still need to plan Christmas dinner. I’m thinking I’ll do a beef tenderloin, mashed potatoes, broccoli, acorn squash from the garden, and rolls. Not sure on dessert. Probably custard pie and Christmas cookies, if I feel up to it. If not, I’ll just buy something fancy.

I made an online comment on a NYT article on FB. Within minutes, I had thousands of “likes” and a few angry comments. It was all good until a few men got very aggressive, moving from repeatedly calling me a “snowflake” (seems to me that THEY are the overly-sensitive ones but whatever) to suggesting I die. I left the thread, realizing that my full name was being disclosed. I don’t need crazy people knocking on my door.

I’m also dealing with plumbing issues in the house. The plumber got the back of the house flowing again (front is fine) but it seems I need the pipes cleared with a high-pressure cleanout, which will run just under $1000 (that’s in addition to the $322 I paid already). The cast iron is corroded inside and the diameter has shrunk to a few inches. The pressure wash will open them back to their original size. It’s not an emergency situation, but one I need to address over the next couple of months.

I’ve been keeping a close eye on KittyCat. The red tail hawk is back in the neighborhood and its big enough to carry her off. KittyCat’s appetite is insatiable. She gobbles food and cries for more. She came into our lives as skin and bones and now she’s rather plump, so we’re cutting back on her food and she is not happy about it. I think its an eating disorder from when she was starved, so I’m trying not to get impatient with her incessant cries for food, but stopping to give her positive reinforcement that does not include food is time consuming and I’m always short for time. It’s a challenging balancing act but I’m doing it. I don’t know that I’ll ever get her over the food anxiety, though.

I hope all my Jewish friends are having a wonderful Hanukkah!
