Motivation Through Humiliation in General Mental Anesthesia

Yeah, it’s been a bit and I’m sorry about that. I started seeing a chiropractor last week because of aggravation and injuries stemming from the car crash that happened a month ago. (As a refresher, it was just a ‘fender bender’ but I was blindsided and the damage to my car (well, sister’s car) was over $2700!!!)

I’ve had headaches/migraines every single day (except 2) since the crash and while at the chiro today, my back was in so much pain, he chose not to do any adjusting. Tomorrow, I have a deep tissue scheduled, so we’ll see how that goes.

So, on the topic of health… (for those whom have followed). It’s been 15 months of non-stop hospitalizations, procedures, blood work and medications etc… in regards to my ulcerative colitis. Long story short, when you experience a ‘flare up” of UC, you are generally given Prednisone and something like Asacol, Apriso or Lialda (for short term use - 6 weeks or less) to lower the inflammation. For 90% or better, this treatment is effective.

People who suffer with ulcerative colitis are automatically at a higher risk for colon cancer. With me, none of the medications work except Prednisone and it’s extremely dangerous to be on that for any length of time as it can cause serious side effects (which I am experiencing) Now I’ve been on a high dose of Prednisone every single day for all this time. I can’t live (literally) without it and it’s hurting me at the same time. Dr’s don’t know what to do for me. I just recently saw my gastroenterologist (last week) and he wants me to have another colonoscopy (which I can not afford) because of my constant inflammation; that has increased my odds for getting colon cancer exponentially. It’s scary!

In the past 15 months I’ve lost my home, my car and was forced to sell off nearly all my belongings including camera lenses (which I use for work) but since I can’t work because of my health, I needed to be able to pay for Dr’s, meds and all of the above. After all this time and losing absolutely everything, my options are down to one.

Homeopathy.

In Florida, in 1998, ulcerative colitis had almost killed me. Dr’s couldn’t help me then either. A homeopathist saved my life (literally). Dr. Bonnie Mackey. Since she is also a Dr., legally she needs to physically see me in order to treat me. Unfortunately, I’m in North Carolina staying with family.

A friend of mine started this GOFUNDME page in the hopes that I can raise enough to see Dr. Mackey in Florida and start the healing process once again (fingers crossed). It’s been very slow going, no donations in over a month and I really need lot’s of shares. People sharing the page and asking their contacts to share and them to share it and so on. I need it to go viral basically.

So, with all this on my mind lately, I thought about “Movember”.

If you’re not familiar; Movember is an annual event involving the growing of mustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, depression and men’s suicide.

On average, women live 6 years longer than men and Movember is not just about awareness, but reducing the number of preventable deaths “facing” men.

Such as in my case with Ulcerative Colitis. Nearly 400,000 men in the United States suffer with Ulcerative Colitis.

I’m extremely thankful for the donations that I have received, but I’m still quite far from reaching the intended goal which is for 3 visits (what I conservatively believe it will take to get me back into remission as it did many years ago). I need one third to make that 1st appointment. I’m close, but not quite there, and I can’t wait much longer. So to motivate people to share the page and ask others to share it and hopefully they in turn will ask others to share it etc… I’m going to participate in Movember!

I asked a bunch of people that if I participated, what sort of facial hair/mustache should I grow. The results are in and it looks like I’ll be growing.......... MUTTON CHOPS!!!

The goal will be to grow it out until I receive enough donations to make my 1st visit just to get the ball rolling. I’ll even go so far as to say that I will continue to grow it out if donations keep coming in until I can officially be PREDNISONE FREE!!! That will be a celebratory moment indeed!

So here are a couple of pics of me before my health declined last year sans facial hair.

This was in front of a green screen for the red carpet premiere of the Christian film “Highway to Hell’ that I was the 1st Assistant Director on.

A few years ago in Las Vegas enjoying some pool time!

This should be interesting, I hope embarrassing myself will motivate my friends, followers, business partners and acquaintances to share the GoFundMe page in the effort to raise awareness for men’s health and save my own!

I already feel like I need a tan leather jacket and a pair of aviators.... ;)
