A Tame Indulgence With Crows in Everyday Ramblings

This is from last year and is the side of the building we used to work in that is about 3 blocks from where I live. They are doing work on the building and over the last few days a guy has been up on one of those mobile platforms you see at construction sites.

He is painting a beautiful new mural over the rose that is in shades of blue and has various textures. I can’t wait to see what it ends up looking like and of course I will share. There is another rose on the other side of the complex and it will be interesting to see if they paint that over too.

After a heavy freezing fog yesterday morning it cleared and the sunrise this morning with all the fall colors and chestnuts all over the ground was so pretty. At dawn the crows flew south past the bright crescent moon and Venus faded into the blue. And the mountains have been out covered with fresh snow seemingly very close.

I am trying to get my daily steps in a little bit earlier. I had a bit of an epiphany this week about activity later in the day. It is much more difficult to do and I don’t enjoy it as much. On top of that I have other things I want to do!

Looking through the benefits guide at work for next calendar year this week, (yes the price of my health insurance is going up, yes my annual deductible is $50 more, and the plan limits are lower but also) much to my dismay our Weight Watchers benefit is going away.

As my leader said yesterday when I told her, wow that is a bit of extra motivation to get back to goal and Lifetime membership, which is free.

And it is. Yesterday when I weighed in at the meeting I was 3.2 lbs. above goal. I can knock that off by the end of the year right? And my clothes will fit better and I will be able to move a bit easier. I am doing all the right things; I just need a little more focus and an extra vegetable or two a day. :)

At Lifetime I only need to go to a meeting once a month too and Mrs. Sherlock and I do hike in the rain after the meeting but not as much and it is less enjoyable. And the rains are coming back…

I can think of a lot of things I could do with those three free Saturday mornings a month.

Hours and hours of yoga continuing education for instance… This week I watched a fascinating program on the health of the pelvic floor. It is a big deal in yoga even though it doesn’t get talked about often in more general classes but did you know that 38% of women and 17% of men (particularly as we age) have some incontinence?

The ideal is to have a strong pelvic floor, not a tight one and strength in a muscle comes from the ability to relax it so there is a lot of deep breathing involved lying on the floor with a rolled up blanket or mat under the knees and weight on the thighs.

Yesterday Carlo obliged and stretched his 11½ pounds across my thighs while I was practicing.

Last night after I was fully asleep some unexpected fireworks started.

All of a sudden I was under a pile of cats. At first I thought it was thunder. Being an individual who is sensitive to loud noises I have quite an aversion to fireworks and unexpected ones are the worst. The news lately is so disturbing one doesn’t know what the heck is going on.

I still don’t know what the fireworks were for. It is weird.

The new teaching schedule is definitely less taxing. I feel like a different person from the one recovering from Jury Duty (sorry, jury service) and wrapping up the last Friday class week before last.

Next weekend I think I am going to splurge and have a massage. It has been well over a year since I had one.

As indulgences go…it is pretty tame one.
