Columbus Day. Indigenous Peoples Day. Day One of the Greatest Genocide in human history?

Anyway, this is what I always think of on this day:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbus_Day_Storm_of_1962

It is one of my earliest memories. We were living in a big old farmhouse in Battleground, Washington north of Vancouver. It had already started storming. I was standing on a kitchen chair in front of the stove, told to keep stirring a pan of tomato soup. I was wondering why it wasn’t getting hot. It was an electric range. Mom was upstairs cleaning. I remember her coming downstairs complaining that the vacuum cleaner wasn’t working. (The power being out was the reason for both problems.) Later that evening I remember being at my Aunt and Uncle’s house, sitting in the living room with kerosene lamps when the big picture window blew in.

Yesterday was a nice relaxed Sunday. I spent several hours reviewing a planned route for my first desert solo backpacking trip. I believe I’ve found a good one:

I followed their route on the map. I’ve got a National Geographic Trails Illustrated topographic map. “Superstition Wilderness & Four Peaks Wilderness Area and Tonto National Forest” (#851) The Peralta Trailhead is 14 ½ miles from this chair, according to google maps.

All I need is my backpack and cooler weather. Both should be here within a couple of months. I’m not going to argue about it with Mom. I’m just going.

I figure Mom should be able to survive without me for a few days.

The scooter? She hasn’t used it since she brought it home. I knew that would happen.

NPR went to a strange dark place yesterday. They were talking about, exploring the whole situation concerning the fact that the dumbass in the white house has the power, the authority, all by himself, to launch a nuclear first strike.

This is the man (man-child?) who can end civilization and possibly all human life on the planet. At least I now know that I’m not the only one who’s realized this. It is being discussed in the open now.

We can all be fucked with another immature temper tantrum or hissy fit.

The lucky ones will be the one’s within five miles of ground zero.

Instant vaporization!

POOF!
